  • So.. Every single time orbi updates or restarts I lose all network connectivity. Preface some stuff here

I have an R7000 that is just a router doing its router thing. it goes CM1100 ->R7000 -> 16 Ubiquti POE Switch -> Orbi -> Orbi Sat plugged into ethernet port on Orbi.

Whenever Orbi does ANY kind of firmware update or I simply power them off and power them on my gateway for even all wired networks stops responding. If I go to the satilite it appears its trying to connect with a blue ring. Turning off the Satilite causes all network traffic to resume on the wired network. I can't understand why the satilite would cause all my gateway traffic to time out. Its almost like the sat is broadcasting new routes or actually is trying to use the same IP as the gateway causing IP conflicts. Anyways is there anyway to resolve this? I did this update this morning and now my satilite is down and I've not got time go through the crap of trying to get them to resync. It appears to ONLY do this with ethernet backhaul hooked up. If I do wireless backhaul I do not believe I get these problems.

  • my issue going to 48 from 44 is that any device connected to the satelite wifi was only getting 1/4 the speed, I connect to the main ORBI router wifi and speeds were good.

I did nothing else since I posted yesturday, just to recap I did a telnet to the satelite only, I still have my original config from 212

     1. config default

     2. config commit

     3. reboot

Thanks to sw_ for the commands!!

Last night my speed seemed better for some reason and this morning wifi speeds from the satelite are good, seems this 48 needs time to settle in.

just a recap on all my findings....

-started with don't remember out of the box and ORBI took an update to 210, I factory reset and all was great!

-I manually updated to 212 then to 32 and did a factory reset.   everything seemed good, but only lasted a day as 44 came out

-auto updated to 44,  slow wifi and range was not good

-manully went to 210 and all was great

-auto updated to 44 and same crapy wifi on both main and satelite

-manual downgraded to 210 all was great and I did the telnet disable auto update

-auto updated to 44 again and same crapy wifi on both main and satelite

-manual downgraded to 210 all was great and I did the telnet disable auto update again

-auto updated to 44 again on its own even after the telnet disable but both main and satelite seemed great on wifi, did not see any wifi isues with -44 this time as all other times before, have no idea why no problems at this point as I did nothing .

-I updated to 48 from ORBI web interface and 1/4 the speed on satelite, tried what I posted above with no luck, a day latter wifi back to normal wifi.

Hopefully it still is great after a week, time will tell....

Saw there was an update availabe in the app a couple days ago.  Went to the web browser like I always do, and shows updates for RBR50, RBS50, RBS40V, and no updates for RBS50Y (it rarely gets updates).  All updates were minor revisions on the last digits, .44 to .48, .10 to .12, so I waited till I had a quiet half hour network wise early today and updated.  No glitches so far and speed tests through the Orbi, phone, and farthest points on daisy chains are back to normal after about 10 to 15 minutes.

I'm not sure why, but I have never had the Orbi update the production firmware on me without my say so,  I've had the RBR50 and RBS50 since launch, I think it was September 2016.  They have had a lot of beta software on and off of them, but I've really only factory reset them as part of, or a result of beta testing.

My wifi cameras are getting weaker signal today, nothing like 210 that was great, might be time to factory reset and try that, one day this stuff works the next day they don't, I changed nothing, do these things have AI built in, it certainly seems so.  Also my wifi channels are locked that worked perfectly on 210 for days, not like this one day good the next bad.  If I could just keep it on 210, hopefully tonight I can a factory reset and kill lots of time I don't have for this.

        Guide

i have one router and three satellites. the router is in ap mode, the satellites are hardwired to router.

since the upgrade, satellites appear to be consistently dropping out and reconnecting. that appears to be the cause of my nest cams dropping out.

i rolled back to previous firmware and all is well.

  • Hello,

Is the disable radio button not working for you?

I don't have it.  Was it introduced in .48?  This is a question I've asked before with no response.  I don't want to update unless I know for a fact it comes with the new firmware as I'll have to schedule a factory reset.

I see, gotta enable this hidden feature. I'll try this out. :smileywink:

I think something is missing here.   I see posts like this from time to time that have no visible images

Ok, lets change the PW for the wifi SSID name on the RBR save and reboot. Lets make that something different. I know it shouldn't matter however maybe something is happening here. I always change the WIFI pw to something different other than the default one. You may need to re-sync the 1st one...worry about this later.

When you get a RBS connected fully, yes do a address reservation on the RBR under Advanced tab/Setup/LAN Setup, save and apply. Then add the next one.

keeping the original SSID AND password from the RBR is actually the main difference i have made this time. Thougt i get them all up and running, than change the SSID to a new one I havent used before. Same with the passwords.

So far, for every RBS connected, I have factory reset the RBS twice, it connects (finnaly) turns blue, sometimes amber, and i see now i have used the wrong colorscheme here all the time. Prior to this post, everytime i have typed Amber, I have meant the color Magenta. (Is it ANY excuse that I am norwegian?)

Typically, it flashes white, then turns magenta, I then hit sync (again) after "setup failed" message appears, and try again. With or without factory reset. Suddenly i turns blue, stays for a little while, turns back to magenta, stays like that for a few minutes, before turning blue again.

I wish there was a logfile describing what processes it tries to do, and where it fails.

  • Well all the firmware after 210 for me is just not good.
My IFTTT app works great with210 and all others is intermittent.
WiFi is hit and miss with all newer firmware in distance and hiccups. I see this with my far cameras live playing.
Backhaul is hit and miss with all newer firmware in speed and hiccups.

I tried factory reset on both router and satellite on 48, took a day to settle in and still hiccups in WiFi.
All the same settings (set manually), nothing complex.

I am running 210 now again, I did the auto update telnet on both this time. Hopefully that stays

I certainly see that 210 had problems also for others, none of this stuff makes sense unless components are off tolerance and causing hiccups, for some on some firmware and not others, I can state that this stuff also applies to other routers manufacturers Ihave had, just one of those things, it is what it is.
  • I keep having to reboot my orbi router at 9pm everynight since the last two firmware updates
