New Orbi setup - satellites keep disconnecting

Hey all,

Just finished setting up the Orbi. Upon updating the firmware for the router (manually), I had to re-sync the satellites. Took a few tries, but ended up working. Post updating the firmware on the satellites, they ... disconnected again. Waited it out, they came back. Renamed them, disconnected.

Sat here and waited a few more minutes, one came back, one didn't. Something feels funky ... Am I missing something here?

Thanks

  • It's a known problem with firmware version 1.12.0.18, unfortunately.  Something in the firmware broke the detection of satellites as satellites, so they show up as WiFi clients and their access points are turned off. :-(

I would personally recommend reverting your setup to the 1.11.0.20 firmware.

  • Anger rising.

Attempted a factory reset (reset button on back) and now I can't connect to the router. Over the past 15 minutes, I've been able to connect briefly and then not again.

Tried the default Wi-Fi too, won't connect.

    WTF?
  • Attempted another factory reset. How long should the router have a solid white light? It's been roughly 5 minutes, still solid and unable to connect.

I'm giving up. I'm unsure what to do at this point. I've factory reset ... 6+ times now to no avail. A couple times I get into the router setup and I can't get past the first couple screens. Have tried both wired and wirelessly, nothing.

Seems like others have upgraded and dowgraded firmware without issue. Perhaps mine is just totally screwed post upgrade/downgrade?

Oh so fun, well worth $500!

adambean Unless Netgear themselves can give you a solution, I would go do a return or exchange from where you bought them. If you can't even configure the router there's nothing you can do. Also, when you were updating, I'm assuming you followed Netgear's recommended process of being on a wired connection and updating the satellite first and then the router?

  • captain_phaser - thanks for the response.

No, I did satellite first. Where in the web app or manual does it recommend what order to go?

Regardless, kinda disappointed in how the device has been... flakey thus far. Taking one more pass and then returning.

Thanks, sadly that material is not packaged in the box, nor displayed within the app.

After letting it sit idle for an hour, I was finally able to reconnect and downgrade the firmware on the satellites.

Based on the other thread, appears simply blocking downloads.netgear.com is the way to go until Netgear fixes this fiasco?

Just in debate on if this is worth keeping. First few hours have been pretty rough.
