Nighthawk M1 ethernet port not working

I finally got around to hooking up my M1 at the farm house where we intend on using it yesterday.
One issue I was having was connecting an AC1750 router to the ethernet port.
I was able to determine that the ethernet port wasn't functioning at all.
I unfortunately had to reset the M1 to its factory settings because I turned off the wireless radio prior to learning the ethernet port wasn't functioning.
It's back up and running now (40mbps down / 20mbps up!!) but I still can't get that darn ethernet port to work.
Is there something I'm missing?

  • I am having the same exact issue. Went as far as purchasing an additional 2x nighthawk m1 and all 3 routers are having issue with the Ethernet port not working. I’ve called Netgear and was on hold for 2 hours with absolutely no help. Any time someone answered they transferred me to someone else.

Hey guys,  Two things to check.  Log into the hotspots management page (web browser at 192.168.1.1) and in the Mobile Internet check the following settings.

USB - Charge + Tether <- Set this to Charge only as USB will take priority over the Ethernet connection.  This will force the tether to Ethernet

Ethernet Standby Timer <- Set this to disable.  Ethernet port goes to sleep on no link activity after 2 minutes unless disabled.

      Hope this helps!

I'm not at our farm right now but the resolution that worked for me was in the M1's settings.

Something to do with the USB port settings. it wasnt at all intuitive but it worked. I'll dig for the actual setting in a few

Log into the MR1100 (M1) web settings and setting the USB Tethering setting to Charge only and set the Ethernet Standby setting to Disabled.

Odd that this was working for a year and now not working.  Can you connect a laptop to the Ethernet port on the MR1100 and confirm it's working properly?

Anyone figure out this issue? Mine just all of a sudden turned off the ethernet port. It seems like the latest firmware could have done it? I’ve tried resetting to factory settings then changing usb to charge only and disable off. But still acts as if the port is complete dead.
  • Ethernet connection was working and suddenly quit last month. I use this router to connect to my Nighthawk Mesh system and was working great but suddenly quit working.

    ethernet not working

have tried everything suggested and net gear just told me to call back next day they didn't know anything

I have only had it for 4 days and need to plug in an extender because it has no range compared to old one. This is second one I have tried. No luck  if anyone has a solution it would be greatly appreciated

    thank you

Check the Nighthawk MR1100 and Extender IP address range.  If both use 192.168.1.1 then that's the problem.  Change one of them to use a different LAN network.  Example, change the Extender to use 192.168.2.1 then connect to the Hotspot.
