10gb switch + ReadyNAS help
First off... apologies if I've got this in the wrong board - wasn't sure whether to go in switches or ReadyNAS.
Anyway, I recently posted a topic about configuring link aggregation for a new ReadyNAS 3138 (https://community.netgear.com/t5/Using-your-ReadyNAS/ReadyNas-link-aggregation/td-p/1656734#M150813). I've since bonded some of its interfaces and configured in Round Robin which seems to be working OK.
But I'm now looking at going a few steps further.
We have a Netgear JGS516 16 port unmanaged switch which, for a number of reasons is full up.
We have also 5 clients on the network that have 10gb ethernet interfaces, so I'm looking at getting some new switches, I'm wondering if I can solve a few problems, that is:
1) Create a 10gb network for the clients that support it
2) Free up some space on the JGS516 and reserve this for the slower / peripheral devices (e.g., printers, APs etc.)
3) Maximise the performance of the ReadyNAS by getting a switch that supports ALB
Could someone review my thinking to see if this is likely to work?
1) Keep the JGS516 and put all 'misc' wired clients on it
2) Get (something like) the XS708E 8-Port 10gb switch for the 'true' 10gb clients
3) Get (something like) the MS510TX-100EUS or GS110EMX-100UKS, use four of its ports for the ReadyNAS and bond/aggregate the ports, and then use the 10gb uplink port to connect to the XS708E
Is this physically possible and will it achieve what I'm looking for?
Finally, if this is likely to work, one possibly limiting factor is that we're only on Cat5e cabling. Will I need to upgrade to 6a (or better) to support the higher speeds?
Many thanks for any help and please forgive any stupid assumptions I may have made.
