Amber power and switch unresponsive

This switch became unresponsive recently and when I started looking at it, I noticed the Power LED is amber.  I attached a serial console cable and did a cold boot.  When it started it immediately gave the following two lines:

 

ubifs error: failed to read inode 1, error -2

ubifs_mount: error reading superblock on volume 'ubi:fs' error = -2!

 

After that there are a few more "mount failed" errors and then it hangs.  The interface never responds to keyboard input.

 

Does this indicate that the internal memory has failed?  Is there a way to reflash the firmware to get it working or does this need to be RMA'd?  Any help or advice you can share is greatly appreciated!

    Possible, but that's the Netgear support engineers can give you a more definitive answer.

    If you can still get to the bootloader, probably over XMODEM or via USB. The link shows how to do a factory reset on M4300's, but it also contains the information on how to enter the bootloader before the switch attempts to load the operating system. There is an option to load firmware from there or to (attempt to) boot from the secondary partition.

     

    If the flash memory is botched you might be able to restore the firmware, but it may only be be question of time when this issue pops up again. So: For a definitive answer contact Netgear support, you might be eligible for a replacement if they think so after analyzing it with you.
