Configure IP Directed Broadcast

We have a GSM7324 router and recently turned on the routing function.  We now have two VLANs and different subnets.  We need to get WOL packets on one VLAN to PCs on the second VLAN.  The routing function works good, but the WOL packets will not go through.  The switch has an IP Directed Broadcast option.  Does anyone have specific details on how the option should be enabled - there are other blanks on the config page for IP address, subnet mask, etc.  I enabled the option, but that did not fix the problem.

    Hi kiheiman,

    Welcome to our community!

I think you should enable routing global if you want the Switch to forwarding L3 packet between different subnet.

GUI web go to 'Routing-->IP-->IP Configuration' and set the 'Routing Mode' to 'Enable', then click the 'Apply' button.

Please try again and check is it ok?

BTW: What do you mean WOL packets? We need more detailed information about this packet.

    Hope that it helps !

The WOL is the Wake on LAN packets.  We have L3 routing enabled.  The WOL packets are L2.  I have seen a number of of Internet posts about WOL packets not being able to go between VLANs unless the "IP Directed Broadcast" option is enabled.  I am looking for specific instructions on how that option can be enabled on a GSM7324 L3 switch, other than just changing the option from Disable to Enable.  I am assuming that other options on the IP configure page need to be changed, along with enabling the Directed Broadcast option.  Hope that helps.

The IP Directed Broadcast is on the menu of:

      Routing/IP/Interface Configuration

If I enable the Forward Net Directed Broadcast, then an error message pops up:

Error:  Subnet mask must have contiguous ones.

      1.1.1.1 does not work.

If I change to 255.255.255.0, then the following error message pops up:

Error:  Failed to set IP Address and Subnet Mask.

Regardless of what IP address I error, the previous error message always comes up.

My thought was that I only needed to enable the "Forward Net Directed Broadcast" for my ports that have the VLAN 200 switches and the port that has the switch that is connected to the VLAN 100 server that runs the Wake On LAN app.

        Hi kiheiman,

Yes. As you said,  WOL packets not being able to go between VLANs unless the "IP Directed Broadcast" option is enabled. And Netgear GSM7324 switch also support this function, configure name as 'Forward Net Directed Broadcasts' in the 'IP Interface Configuration' page.

There is error message pops up in your configuration, because some mandantory parameters you haven't set.

In 'IP Interface Configuraiton' page, you need set 'IP Address' 'Subnet Mask' 'Routing Mode' 'Administrative Mode' and 'Forward Net Directed Broadcasts' parameters at same time. It's will be success and no any error message pops up.

        Below is my configuration screenshot:

        Hope that it helps !
