First time vlan
My ISP is providing new cisco 2901 with .1q trunking. This is my first ever vlan.
I have set vlans 2,3,4 with trunk ports 2 and 48. Vlan2 is one subnet, having U set for ports 47, 49, and 50. Vlan3 is another subnet, having U set for ports 3-46. Vlan3 is guest wifi, having u on port 1 only. I have matched these settings in PVID. if I set my laptop to a static ip in the same range as the switch. I can only ping it from one of the trunk ports. Is this right/by design? Have I done something wrong/left something out? I assume the 2901 will connect to port 48 as the uplink?

Hi Cbchalmers,
Welcome to the community! :)
Make sure that trunk ports 2 and 48 are members of all VLANs with a PVID of 1.
Since VLAN 3 is the Guest WiFi, the port where the access point is connected to should be a tagged (T) port with a PVID of 1 (provided that your access point is a VLAN aware device).
Let me share the article below and use it as your reference guide:
How do I set up one or more VLANs between a NETGEAR ProSAFE firewall and a smart switch?
