M4300-12X12F strange behavior when using Dell LTF8502-BC+-DEN1 10Gb/s SFP+ modules

Hi,

I recently added to our Netgear M4300-12X12F switch (Firmware 12.0.19.4, AV UI Version 2.2.8.26, Boot Version

B1.0.0.17) some Dell LTF8502-BC+-DEN1 SFP+ transceivers, right after doing that the LEDs showing active links on the other previously working transceivers shut down.

Trying to debug the problem from the web user interface, very strange behaviors can be noticed when the Dell transceivers are installed:
FAN-1 and FAN-2 are randomly reported as failed, and also MAC and System temperatures jumps randomly to strange values (i.e. over 200 Celsius degrees). Moreover the Power LED lights on the chassis from time to time switch to solid yellow, maybe because it performs a power-on self-test (POST), or otherwise because it reboots itself.

Removing the Dell transceivers seems to solve all of these issues.

Is this a known problem? Any chances that a firmware upgrade may solve the problem?

Cheers,

Enrico

Connect a serial console (e.g. a PC with a terminal program) via the [supplied] USB2serial adapter, and capture all the output 24*7, including the potential crash and restart, of course while your third-party modules are in place and active.

Keep in mind Netgear does not support third-party SFP/SFP+ modules. Double check if the same problem happens while operting original Netgear modules.

      Hi,

actually the problem happens as soon as the Dell Transceiver is inserted in a slot, thus I guess that few minutes of logs are enough.

Here is the output of the "show fiber-ports optics-info all" command without the Dell transceiver, when the switch seems to be in a perfectly working condition.

Then I enable the console logging and insert the Dell transceiver. As soon as this kind of transceiver is inserted (I tested several of them with the same results), several error events get into the console and eventually the switch reboots.

After the transceiver is removed, the switch need to be manually rebooted in order to be fully functional again.
