M4300-16X (XSM4316PA) and ORBI RBK854 CONFIGURATION
Hi,
The auto fill menu for the model numbers on this post doesn't have my models, so below is my equipment:
Modem - Nighthawk CM2000 Multi-gig
Router with 3 Satelites over ethernet backhaul from Router - ORBI RBK854 - firmware V4.6.3.16_2.0.51 (latest I believe)
Switch - M4300-16X (XSM4316PA) connected to Orbi Router ethernet port (firmware 12.0.13.8, there is a notice on the netgear page to use this older firmware due to issues with 12.0.15.4).
I have the above equipment with the Orbi Router in Router Mode and the switch is connected out of the box without any changes to the configuration. I have no experience configuring switches. Everything on my system including Control4 devices, wired Ring Doorbells etc has worked plug and play and I've had no issues. However, I have a "Liftmaster 828LM" internet gateway (to control the garage doors) plugged into my switch and the port won't activate. It just stays dark. If i plug the gateway into any of the ethernet ports on any of my satelites it works immediately. My understanding is the orbi router is assigning ip address etc, so I don't know why it will work with the same ethernet cable on the satelites but not plugged into my switch. I'm hoping someone can tell me any settings I need to change on my switch that might be preventing it from working. I did speak to support for Liftmaster and googled and checked the manual. The tech support said it must be my switch configuration. The manual has a blurb that states:
"The Internet Gateway uses User Datagram Protocol (UDP) port 80 for inbound and outbound data
messages. Transmission Control Protocol (TCP) port 2165 is used for firmware updates. If a firewall
or network security appliance is on the network (e.g. SonicWALL®), the User Datagram Protocol (UDP)
Timeout setting needs to be set to 180 seconds or greater. "
The only reference to a UDP setting I can find in the switch is something called "UDP RELAY".
Any guidance is appreciated, I would like to keep the Liftmaster gateway device in the closet with my switch on UPS power.
Also, the multi-gig light blinks constantly on my modem, not sure if this is okay or if there are settings I need to address in my router or the swtich. All ethernet cabling is certified CAT7.
Best Regards,
Matt
Can't find any complete specs of this 828LM LiftMaster Internet Gateway. They only talk of "Ethernet". In case this is a simple 10 Mb/s Ethernet port (plenty of performance for a door opener), the M4300-16X (XSM4316PA) does support Fast Ethernet (100 Mb/s) and up, classic 10 Mb/s Ethernet won't bring up a link. This is fine on the Orbi however if I have it right. I'd suggest to try a simple small non-managed switch in between the M4300 and the LiftMaster for a test or work-around.
