Netgear ProSafe Plus 24 port problem cable length - no signal
Hi,
I already have a ProSafe 16 port switch that works without any problems.
I recently bought a ProSafe 24 port switch (JGS524E v2) to use instead of an old D-link 10/100 Mb switch.
Since our ...

Hello JohnCarloV,
Thank you for replying.
The configuration works fine with an older D-link switch. I just switched the switches, but my Netgear won't recognise the cable. I didn't test it with a third device, I can try that next week.
Regards,
Ditrovic.

Sorry for the long wait, I work at multiple schools.
Next monday I can check if only D-link manages to get a signal or other switches too.
Thanks.- DitrovicJun 04, 2018Aspirant
I finally managed to test the setup with other devices.
Strangly, all switches don't seem to have a problem with the connection.
D-link pro switch 10/100, TP-link home device 10/100, other TP-link-device all work fine. What might cause the problem is thedata loss on the cable, since it probably exceeds the 100M-max length, signal speed (to internet) is 7 times slower. (70 Mbps on main switch, 10 Mbps after 100M cable)
Maybe Netgear can't deal with the lost packages and therefor drops the connection.
Unfortunatelly I can't add a switch to power the signal halfway the cable since it's under ground for the most part.Any thoughts?
Thanks a lot!- DitrovicJun 11, 2018Aspirant
I found out that 1000mbps-switches all have problems with the signal of the cable.
It has nothing to do with Netgear products. The signal is too weak for Gigabit devices... 100 Mbps doesn't have that problem.
Only thing I can do is get more power over the UTP cable.
Thanks for your time.
