Hi Jmacjr,
Welcome to the community,
As you described the plus switch performance should be the same as a unmanaged switch, so first you should turn off all the features that you are not using and use the monitoring tools that the GS116E has:
- Turned off IGMP snooping ( Page 16 http://www.downloads.netgear.com/files/GDC/GS105EV2/WebManagedSwitches_UM_EN.pdf)
- Check port statistics ( Page 76 http://www.downloads.netgear.com/files/GDC/GS105EV2/WebManagedSwitches_UM_EN.pdf) Is there any error in the NAS port or any other device?
- Check Link Speed/ Duplex ( Page 58 http://www.downloads.netgear.com/files/GDC/GS105EV2/WebManagedSwitches_UM_EN.pdf) Is linked to the correct speed? If not could you update the network drivers on the NAS
In order to identify the problem it will also help if you can do a port mirrroring and capture the packets using a tool like wireshark.
Hope that it helps
