Ports & VLANS

Hey all - severe brain issue today.

I have a core switch with one port set to tag traffic for vlans 10 & 20.

Into that core switch port, I have a GS748T, where I want the odd# ports to be vlan 20 & the even# ports for vlan 10.

Goal:
I have a DHCP server, serving both VLANS - so I was hoping that plugging into either row, would pull an IP from the DHCP server, but no luck.

I've been playing around with PVID & VLAN settings on the ports, but can't find the right combo. What's the setting for the uplink port on the 748?

Thoughts? Help?

Thanks!

-Tom

  • Got it.

    GS748:

      DHCP release/renew no successful for different networks when I move the cable to the different VLAN ports.

      So:
      Interface/Port 1: VLAN 20.
      VLAN 20 Membership: U
      Port PVID config: VLAN 20
      Uplink port: VLAN 20: T

      Interface/Port 2: VLAN 10
      VLAN 10 Membership: U
      Port PVID config: VLAN 10
      Uplink port: VLAN 10: T

  • hoping you can still reply on this topic, otechcomputing.

    I have a similar situation where I have three VLANs (5/6/7) with 1 computer connected to each on ports 5/6/7 respectively. They shouldn't talk to each other. While I have an NTP server connected to port 8 which should talk to all VLANs.

    According to your explanation, should I have set it up as:

    VLAN 5:
    Untag port 5
    Tag Port 8

    VLAN 6:
    Untag port 6
    Tag Port 8

    VLAN 7:
    Untag port 7
    Tag Port 8

    VLAN 1:
    Untag port 8
    Tag Port 5
    Tag Port 6
    Tag Port 7

    Port 5 -> PVID 5
    Port 6 -> PVID 6
    Port 7 -> PVID 7
    Port 8 -> PVID 1

    Is this the proper configuration? Thank you in advance!!
