Buffer sizes on XS708E

I'm trying to find the cause of some lost datagrams on my network.  Linux has a socket buffer setting that can cause lost datagrams if it is not large enough.  Does the XS708E have a buffer that could be causing lost datagrams?

    Hi dean_s

    Thanks to provide the feedback.

You can refer UM (Page 36, manage flow control) to get know how to enable it. To measure the packet drop, suggest to use equipment IXIA, spirent or SMARTBITS.

    Hi dean_s,

    Welcome to Netgear Community!

Generally Switch has packet buffer memory to transmit the data, for example XS708E, at least 1MB, so when a device is under loaded, dropping packet won't happen at any time. In case, port gets over loaded, flow control allows it to send PAUSE requests to the  devices sending it data to allow the over loaded condition to clear.  If flow control is not enabled and an over loaded condition occurs, the device will drop packets.

Hope my info could help you, thanks

1 MB is not a very large buffer when data is over 3 GB through the switch.

You mentioned flow control.  How do I enable flow control or see if it is enabled?  The devices sending the data do have a transmit buffer that I can increase so flow control could be helpful.

Is there a way to check for dropped packets on the XS708E?
