Custom limiter

Hey Netgear Fundi's ;)

I trust this finds everyone well.

I would like to know if Netgear are able to allow for a custom "set by yourself" speed limiter, instead of having, a drop down list to select from. Some of the provided speeds are eligible but some don't match the speeds that I'm looking at facilitating.

This also goes for VLAN's. If I were to setup VLAN's, I would also  like to customly set my own speed, per port.

I would need to be able to do this across any of the Netgear switches that I work with.

Regards

Charles

    Hi Chillies777

    Short answer, yes.

For instance, using M4100-D12G (GSM5212-100NES ordering SKU), you can set up simple ACL for all traffic with global rate limit and assign this rule to any port. Web interface (GUI) is fully functional, and more intuitive than command line (telnet or SSH).

    HI Chillies777

    Welcome to our community!

If you are looking to apply a more granular policy in your rate limit I would suggest to move to the Managed Switches, using the CLI you will be able to define in Kbps the rate limit that you want:

    Police

The simple form of the police command uses a single data rate and burst size, resulting in two outcomes: conform and violate. The conforming data rate is specified in kilobits-per-second (Kbps) and is an integer from 1 to 4294967295. The conforming burst size is specified in kilobytes (KB) and is an integer from 1 to 128. For each outcome.

    Hope it helps!

      Thank you, XavierLL!

Also available in Managed Switches GUI (web interface) for standard and advanced ACLs

For instance with M4300 series, see page 599 in GUI User Manual for advanced ACL with single data rate and burst size, or page 591 for basic ACL. ACLs can be binded to physical interfaces (ports) or VLANs.

        Hi Gents,

Thank you to both for your answers.

The Netgear language I heard you guys speak and mention in the previous comments is higher talk to me. I'm into simpler networks and on the rookier side of things and learing.

So I suppose the managed switches can maunally be custom set on a simpler manner via the GUI?

Many thanks for such positive response from Netgear!
