FS728TP continuos reboot loop
Ok, I literally just received this off Amazon about 1 hour ago. Out of the box I connect to the servers data port, config and up and going. No issues.
I am poking around with the Smart Control software and notice that switch firmware can and should be updated. I follow the GI exactly with no issues.
The firmware downloads and proceeds to install. At 93% the switch goes into a continuous reboot. It seems that it reboots every 30 seconds. I also see it connect and disconnect for the Data Port on the server.
I try to connect to the switch in between reboots via the WEB interface and the SCS. No luck.
I have tried to power cycle, no luck.
I have tried to factory default, no luck.
Despite during the firmware upgrade there where no power interruptions or network connection failures I feel that the switch did not completely upgrade the firmware.
Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
DaneA,
I followed your suggestions and the results are the same.
At this point I would have to say this is a defective unit.
Do I need to contact NETGEAR and coordinate a exchange with them or with Amazon. This unit is not even 24 hours old.
Thank you in advance,
CSLLC

Just checked the TASK report in the SCC and it shows that it successfully downloaded and installed the FW update. It also shows a successful reboot.

On a whim I changed ports on the switch and too my suprize I got a green light. So I ran the SCC and it found the switch but with a IP of .238 instead of .239.
I checked to see that static was selected and not DHCP. Confirmed.
I noticed that all setup info was gone, I.E. description, location etc.
Then I noticed that the devices MAC address has been changed to all zeros with the last digit being 01.
There is no longer a factory reset option in the SCC. I cannot factory reset on front panel.
I tried to install the FW again and again received confirmation that it was successful in the task list.
I tried to change the IP back to .239, no joy, it fails.
I try to access the web interface, no joy it times out.
I downloaded the original FW and attempted to install, no joy I receive a timeout notification in the task list.

Hi CSLLC,
Welcome to the community! :)
Kindly try the steps below:
1. Disconnect the FS728TP from your existing network and make sure its turned on. Get a straightened paper clip.
2. Insert the paper clip to the factory defaults hole then press and hold the factory reset button inside it for 30 seconds.
3. After 30 seconds, turn off the FS728TP while you still continue to press and hold the factory reset button. Wait for 5 seconds.
4. After 5 seconds, turn on the FS728TP while you still continue to press and hold the factory reset button. Wait for another 5 seconds.
5. After 5 seconds, release the paper clip from the factory reset button. Wait for the FS728TP to boot up properly.
6. Connect a PC directly to the FS728TP and set a static IP address of 192.168.0.210 to your PC.
7. Open a browser like Google Chrome or Firefox then at the address bar of it, type 192.168.0.100 then press Enter. Login to the user interface of switch. Enter "admin" as the username and "password" as the password with no quotation marks.
Note: The default IP address of FS728TP is 192.168.0.239.
Are you able to access its web-GUI? If ever the FS728TP switch still continuously reboots on its own, then it means that the switch has failed and needs to be replaced.
Regards,
DaneA
