GS728TP: PoE Fault
Hello, We just purchased a GS728TP PoE Smart Switch. Unfortunately, when we plug in a new device that requires PoE, the switch has to be rebooted before it will recognise (and provide power to) ...
- Dec 19, 2014Hello,
I'm very happy to find a topic referring exactly the issue i faced.
I also received a replacement switch put problem was still the same (last firmware from the website, etc ...).
After hours of troubleshooting, i found out that it's related to the cascaded switch behind this one.
This GS728TP was connected on a GS724TP, and both are POE switches, i disabled the POE feature on both switches on the ports used to cascade them and no issues anymore.
I don't know if you had same setup but in my case it's now solved ! :)
Regards.

We are also having difficulties with PoE using a GS728TP.
The devices we wish to power are IP cameras. They work instantly, perfectly well when connected to other switches (e.g. GS724TP, GS748TP).
The GS728TP has already been swapped out for a direct replacement.
The PoE supply may work on some ports, but not others. Some may come to life after an hour or so. On one occasion, lucky enough to have a number of ports working, upon power cycling, down to only one port with PoE supplied.
It is a pity the GS724TP was discontinued so quickly - it would have been the product of choice. It is sometimes preferable to let others be pioneers with new products that have questionable reliability.
The cost in time/labour etc. is not tenable.
Can we have a firmware update, product recall, or recommendation from Netgear for a switch that reliable provides PoE, whether Netgear branded, or not.
