Netgear smart switch VLANS not working

So I just purchased a Netgear Smart Switch. The switch I bought: https://www.netgear.com/support/product/gs108Tv3.aspx

I have another dumb switch that it is connected to with a crossover cable. I want to use the smart switch and make a VLAN network for all my VM's on Proxmox.

I followed a YouTube video on setting up the VLAN's on a Netgear Switch:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6G9-8tf1kuk

I went through and configured the Windows 11 laptop I have connected to it for test purpose with a static IP on the same subnet.

But for what ever reason I cannot ping beyond the Smart Switch. I can ping 192.168.69.254 (smart switch) but if I try to ping 1.1.1.1. it doesn't work?

I also went through the PDF user manual on setting up a VLAN and still with the same results? So not sure if I am missing something or what.

The future goal of this is to be able to have my Proxmox Management cable on my home network which is 192.168.0.0/24 but have all my VM's connected through a VLAN aware bridge of 192.168.69.0/24.

Any help or suggestions on this would be much appreciated.

  • Of course the VLANs work as expected: Each VLAN does make a dedicated network, leaving tiny details like STP and RSTP alone, each behaves like a unmanaged switch for each network.

You need to look into the IPv4 routing, being on an additional fully fledged router, or limited to some extent on the switch itself.

so not sure if you read my post entirely, but I posted a video that I followed exactly so never did touch STP and RSTP.

What do you mean exactly by IP4 routing? Like is there a specific setting I should be looking for?

Show us the switch IP config and the VLAN Routing config.

Does your Proxmox network config require a trunk port, so tagged?

Also add the exact switch model and hardware version and the firmware in place.

Shuddering a little bit reading about an unmanaged switch involved here - for what should be dedicated networks and dedicated IP subnetworks.
