POE device on my JGS516PE is not being allocated an IP address by the DHCP server on the subnet

Firmware 2.6.0.48

I am setting up a Vivotek camera and for some reason it does not get allocated an IP address by my DHCP server, after I connect it. If I connect the camera to another POE switch (D-Link) on a different subnet, it gets allocated an IP address and works perfectly. If I connect another device (Windows 10) to either a non POE port, or a POE port, it does get an IP address allocated.

I have other Vivotek cameras that are connected to the other POE ports on the JGS516PE, but they have fixed IP addresses, and are/have been working perfectly for years.

It would be convenient to be able to connect the new Vivotek cameras to the JGS516PE, rather than having to use the D-Link, as I have three to set up.

The DHCP server is running on my Sophos firewall.

I will try and change an existing camera to use DHCP, to see if it is something to do with the new cameras, reluctantly, as if it fails too, I have to repeat the step above with the D-Link.

Any suggestions for where to look?

Jon

    Thanks for your post.

It turns out the Sophos firewall is dropping the DHCP request packet from the Vivotek camera. Curiously if I set it up with a fixed IP, then change to a DHCP allocated IP, it works! If I then disconnect and reconnect the camera, the firewall again drops the packet.

So there is no issue with the JGS516PE. I have a work around with the D-Link switch, so that will do for now!

  • Start with think about the 802.1af PoE - this might not be sufficient.

As you don't give any insight on your Vivotek models, firmware (what works, what does not work), same for that other magic DLink PoE switch, figure....
