Updated Password not working

I have updated the password via the web interface.

I entered my current valid password, and the new password, two times.

The password was accepted without any warning or error messages.

After logging out I'm not able to log in again. I have tried the old and the new password.

I have generated the new password in our Credential Management software and copied if over in the new password and new password validation fields. Additionally, I've saved the new password in my browser based password manager.

I compared the two differently stored passwords and they do match. So I'm pretty sure that I have not entered something different in the change password form.

My guess is, that the new password passed the validation but was not stored correctly. The password is 16 characters long and randomly generated and has several special characters in it. This includes, but is not limited to (=), ($), (?) and maybe this caused an issue?

I've had issues with some systems with specific special characters. For example the (=) or (:) sign is used sometimes as a seperator leading to an only partially stored password.

Is there anythin similar known about the GS752TP?

Did some similar test on another switch model using the same code base and UI .... can't set the password to eg. Barn21POE and ending with a non-accessible switch, too. Can't get rid of the impression the UI does allow a password policy as shown on the initial password enforcement...

...while the Barn21POE does fit the policy and input check, it appears that internally the password _without_ a special symbol isn't stored. NTGR is already informed, the ODM is working on finding the root cause.

  • Is it correct, that we still don't have any feedback on this topic from a Netgear official?

YeZ please (referring especially on the GS30xE issue on the new web UI).

In case any Netgear official reads this: It is quite embarrassing to have no statement on an issue like this for such a long time.

This issue makes hardware unaccessible which is labeled as "enterprise" class. I can't think of an issue much more fatal than this, since it means nothing less than loosing control over remotely controlled network devices which are security relevant.

Is the really the way how enterprise customers are treated by Netgear?

If so, I'll better take two steps away from any buying decision towards Netgear which is targeting anything other than SOHO.
