Will Mode Conditioning Patch Cables help with this issue?

Hello,

I have been having problems with a link flapping only when working with the AXM763 Module, but when I change 1G module it works without problems. Also there other 2 links with the same configuration working with the AXM763 10G.

I understand that the distance between my buildings is avobe the maximum distance, But How can I explain that 2 of those links work and only one fails.

I was reading cisco documentation and fiber specs and I found Mode Conditioning Patch cables  are required for 10GBASE-LRM SFPs working on OM1 MMF because those cables reduce the effect called differential mode delay (DMD).

And I was thinking that this might help me with my problem, Can anybody help me with this problem? If it could work or not or if I missunderstood the Mode Conditioning Patch Cables.( I am not an expert in fiber)

Thank you for your time!

  • Hello Everyone,

Just in case somebody has the same issue.

I decided to purchase Mode Conditioning Patch fiber cables. The link came up right away and it is working without errors.

    Regards,

    Jorge

    Hi jsandovalSRS

In most cases, our AXM763 doesn't need mode conditioning cables because of the componentry in our switches.  I suspect the mode conditioning cables won't help. I think we need to narrow down your issue. This will let the Community help you better.

Can you confirm your switch model number(s)?

Are the two successful links (OM1 MMF) using AXM763 in the same switch model on each end, or in different switches?

On the link presenting the issue, do you have the same switch on each end or different switches?

Finally, what is the distance for the erroneous link?

    Thank you

      Thank you for your reply,

Can you confirm your switch model number(s)?

Switch: S3300-28X ProSAFE 24-Port Gigabit Stackable Smart Switch with 4 10G uplinks

      SFP: AXM763 SFP+ Transceiver 10GBASE-LRM

Are the two successful links (OM1 MMF) using AXM763 in the same switch model on each end, or in different switches?

I migrated all our switches to S3300-28X and all of them use the same SFP Module(AXM763)

On the link presenting the issue, do you have the same switch on each end or different switches?

Yes, same switches and same SFP modules.

Finally, what is the distance for the erroneous link?

      799ft(243.535mts)
