Ok So to Extend an Ethernet Connection... hmmm mmm
For S%$tz and Giggles
Ok so I liked about three feet to lay an ethernet connection. Found an old net gear fs105 5 port unmanned ehternet switch box. Is this going to be more trouble then getting off my butt and getting a longer ethernet cord? Will my RealTek board run them and be compatible

If the 10/100Mb/s link is sufficient, yes. That's the beauty of Ethernet.

Yeah I saw that one. Im guessing contemporary switches have gotten alot faster to handle the 1G of data per second i do believe that the newer tech is now able to deliver and perform.

well, it depends what link rate you expect, and what kind of services are run.
On basic audio (not talking of ICMP multicast and the like), for some web administration, for non high-performance file transfers, and much more Fast Ethernet can be perfectly sufficient.

If we're indeed talking about just three feet and no benefit of having additional ethernet ports on site (while at the same time regressing from 1000BASE-T to 100BASE-T), a long-enough patch cable (maybe even with a passive connector/ socket) might pay for itself within short time (no need for a powered switch), while also providing better speeds and less potential for problems in the future.
But using a switch is a valid solution as well, just not always the best one.
