PPTP VPN connect but cannot ping

Regards.

I have a NETGEAR ProSafe™ Gigabit Quad WAN SSL VPN Firewall SRX5308 in this LAN:

Network: 192.168.1.0/24

Firewall IP: 192.168.1.1

PPTP Server IP subnet: 192.168.25.0/24

I configure a PPTP VPN following this tutorial: https://kb.netgear.com/24288/Configuring-a-PPTP-VPN-Tunnel-to-ProSAFE-ProSECURE-routers

It connects but I cannot ping the firewall, neither any PC on the remote LAN.

According to tutorial: IP range must be different to existing VLAN range in use. I think this is the problem.

How could I access the remote LAN if my IP is on a different subnet?

I could connect using this command after connectig to the VPN:

route add 192.168.1.0 mask 255.255.255.0 192.168.25.0

I can avoid this command if I go to VPN network adapter TCP/IP v4 porterties, push Advanced button and check "Default gateway in remote network", but this slows my internet connection.

Is there some way to connect to the VPN without the command and without slowing my internet access? I have to give VPN access to some clients and dont want them to open command line every time they connect nor slow down his internet.

Thanks in advance.

  • Sorry for the delay.

Finally I told my clients to leave "Default gateway in remote network" checked, warning them that they will lose internet while connected to the VPN.

It's a shame that the firewall force you to give the VPN a different subnet than the LAN.

    Regards.

    Hi rutsagig,

    Welcome to the community! :)

It seems that your concern is similar on this forum thread.  Kindly read it.

What is the current firmware version of the SRX5308?

      rutsagig,

I just want to follow-up on this.  Were you able to read the forum thread I've shared?  Also, what is the current firmware version of the SRX5308?

      We’d greatly appreciate your feedback.

        Sorry for the delay.

This is the info of my firewall:

        System Name: SRX5308

        Firmware Version: 4.3.4-2

        Secondary Firmware Version: 3.0.7-45

Yes, I have read that forum thread before. It's where I discover I could connect to remote LAN checking "Default gateway in remote network" and using the route command, but as I said this options don't fit my needs.

Is there some way to adding the routes to the firewall?
