WAX630E not negotiating 802.3at POE+ via LLDP

Hello,

I have a site that is transitioning to WiFi6 and the APs will need to be put on the existing Cisco WS-C2960X-48FPD-L switches as we are transitioning the access switches with a different project time line. During my testing, I have suspicion that the WAX630E doesn't negotiate POE+ 802.3at power via LLDP correctly. I have an outdoor Netgear WiFi6 AP, the WAX610Y which does properly negotiate.

Is this normal behavior for a WAX630E?

Notes:

WAX630E fw version V10.7.0.11

WAX610Y fw version V10.7.5.3

Guess we're facing a factory new WAX630E here I tend to suggest to contact Netgear Support via https://my.netgear.com/  .

We can try to bring in BruceGuo into this discussion - not sure if he can assist on the fly here on what looks like an interop issue.

      Hello Schumaku,

A support ticket seems like the way to go.

We’ve actually had these APs for about 6 months now powered by a Cisco C9300 switch via 802.3bt. They’ve been working fine there. While doing basic troubleshooting, I read some release notes about the WAX630E not negotiating PoE++ about a year ago and I upgraded the fw to see if it would fix the issue I’m having as well.

        Hi GDrosario.

Thanks for the update. Our Engineering team will help out once you have both the LLDP packet captures and AP device logs handy.

        Kind regards,

    Hi GDrosario,

Did you plug it in port 1 or the 802.3bt / 802.3at of the AP? Also, have you checked if there's enough power budget to supply the said AP? I have encountered problems before where WAX APs won't turn on CISCO POE+ switches, just have to enable and run "#lldp run" via CLI.

Take note that if the WAX630E is powered via POE+, the max throughput will be reduced to 50% on 5GHz.

    Kind regards,,

      Hello Brian,

The AP is being powered by the switch via PoE through port 1. This model of switch I’m using has 740w for PoE budget and during testing, only the two APs are connected. LLDP is enabled on both sides and the switch sees both devices as neighbors.

    HI GDrosario

Can you please share the LLDP packet captures and device detailed logs. I will get our engineering team to check and confirm.

you can send it to my business email pramendra.singh@netgear.com

    Thanks!
