SXS80 w wired backhaul runs ok for a while, then loses connection to router

After upgrading SXS80 to 4.3.3.200 firmware for SXR80 router and satellite, all comes up fine. But after a while (hours, days) the connection drops to the satellite. It is hard-wire connected to the router. The satellite is on the network, I can ping it, trace route it. BUT Insight shows it in orange, and says it is disconnected. All the clients connect to the router instead of the much closer satellite.

This just started after the firmware upgrade, and only on this network, with a single satellite. On another network with 5 satellites, all is well.

    Hello jbsate

And welcome to the NETGEAR Community! 🙂

Maybe you can try the following:

    1. Check first the cable. You may swap cables with those that are working fine.

    2. Try resetting the devices to their default settings and then try again.

    3. Try also removing the devices from Insight and add them back again to Insight.

    4. For troubleshooting purposes, can you try connecting the router and satellite wireless and not wired at the moment by pressing the Sync button on the back of the satellite, and within two minutes, press the Sync button on the back of the router. When the bar LED on the satellite lights blue, the connection between the router and satellite is good. This may take 6 to 12 minutes.

    Hello jbsate

I have not heard any response from you. Is everything good now on your end? Please provide us feedback if my post was able to address your issue.

      Hello Erwin,

Apologies for not responding.  Given that the problem is not duplicatable by any set of steps in a timely manner, other than reset the satellite and wait, I have not gone through your suggestions. After reset, all is good, for an unpredictable amount of time.

The last time I reset, it was good for many days (perhaps 10?) until the neighborhood had power go out yesterday. With power restored, all came back ok. At this point I just keep an eye on it, checking Insight periodically. If the issue starts happening more frequently I may try your suggestions.

What is odd about this is that the satellite does not show any physical issue, i.e. stays dark, no magenta color, as if all is well. I get no notifications. The only way I know something is wrong is through Insight or the local login on my network. Several clients appear to attach to the router node (much further away) instead of the nearby satellite. And traffic does not appear impacted (up to 80G/day). Which makes me wonder if it is more of a display issue than actual connection problem. Perhaps clients are still connecting to the satellite and on to the router and Internet, even if I can't see it.

      Thanks for your help.

        Hello jbsate

I’m glad your issue is resolved on your end!

Yes, please keep us posted and you can come back to us anytime you notice issues again. But if you can upgrade your router I guess it would be better as well. If you can provide FURRYe38's request it would also be beneficial not only to us but to those who are seeing this thread.

        Have a lovely day
        Erwin

Can you let us know how the SXS are ethernet connected to the SXR? Directly behind the SXR or is there a LAN switch or LAN patch panel in the middle?

What CAT# LAN cable are you using? CAT6 is recommended.

What is the size of your home? Sq Ft?
What is the distance between the router 📡 and satellite(s)🛰️? 30 feet or more is recommended in between SXR 📡 and SXS 🛰️ to begin with depending upon building materials when wired or wirelessly connected.

What channel configurations are currently set on the router?
Any Wifi Neighbors near by? If so, how many?

What is the Mfr and model# of the Internet Service Providers modem/ONT the NG router is connected too?
