Cannot print using Genie app
Hello.
I am trying to use AirPrint via USB on router. Genie app crashes every time.
Using Nighthawk R7000, latest firmware. V1.0.5.64_1.1.88
El Capitan OS, latest version. 10.11.5
Printer driver works fine, prints well when connected directly to MacBookPro via usb.
1. I can see printer online, while Genie app is on.
2. Printing job is being sent hundreds of times (for some reason). No working signs on printer itself.
3. Genie app crashes. Printer goes offline.
Did all app read permissions on all available users, as mentioned on other posts.
It is expensive router. Is it broke?
Please help, it doesn't seem to be as easy to print online as it is writen in manuals.
Kind regards,
M.

Hi bbox,
1. Have you tried using the Genie app on another device (another MAC or PC) and get the AirPrint function to work?
2. Does it only crash when you're trying to do AirPrint?
3. Are you getting an error message? If yes, what is the error message. A screenshot would be greatly appreciated.

Dear Dexter,
Thank You for reply.
1. No, I am affraid it is not an option at the moment.
2. It does crash only when I try to AirPrint. However, in any case I am not able to quit the app. I get the rainbow. It just stops responding.
3. No errors, just a crash report. Should I provide one?
Few other notions on the issue:
1. Genie app itself is using tremendous amount of CPU resources 103% on idle, 170% when trying to print. Therefore the crash, I guess...
2. Somehow it started to roll the paper out of the printer, but no signs of printing yet. Just a blank paper comes out.
3. In the AirPrint list, I see my network printer and I can put a tick on it, but it is never green, it is grey (screenshot).
Also, I have tried another app (handyPrint). It works flawlessly. Very simple to use, not resource hungry, even allows change print properties via iOS. I would use it happilly, but it is not free.
Having said that, it would be nice to have same options without aid of 3rd party.
Kind regards,
M.

Isn't Airprint WiFi based? What printer do you have? Printer needs to be compatible with Airprint.

Of course it is! It is AirPrint :)
If my printer was compatible with AirPrint, I would not bother myself using NETGEAR's Genie app.
However, as it is one of the product selling points, quote: „NETGEAR genie makes any printer AirPrint compatible“, it becomes an issue.
Above I have listed number of symptoms, which are not directly related with AirPrint – more of an app stability itself, I believe. My R7000 shares the printer on network tremendously. And no genie or other apps are required in this case. When it comes to iOS devices, there has to be a small script running on some of the network computers, to share the printer as an AirPrint device (since printer does not have one itself).
At this point genie app fails. Trying to figure out why.
Cheers,
M.

Even if you make it work depending on Genie it'll be non-ending frustration. My two printers are on wireless. NFC, Airprint compatible. No problem using it, 100% trouble free. I never bothered using Genie when I am using netgear stuffs. Mostly I use Asus routers. Saying this I never use USB ports on routers either.
