R8000 no longer connects remotely with Genie app after latest firmware
The Genie app was finally working the way it was supposed with pausing connections, etc but then I went an upgraded to the latest firmware and its hosed up Genie. It shows two routers now, one with a serial and one without. I can't connect to the one with the serial number anymore. The second one lists as R8000 (N/A) and doesn't allow remote access. Anybody have any idea what happened here? It's like the firmware upgrade created a duplicate router entry in Netgears DB and they don't match anymore. Please help!!

- ShowsomeApprenticeNo fix yet. All I keep getting told by Dexter is the engineers are working on it.

I also have the same problem after the update .Genie does Not connect .
1. Genie wont work as descibed
2. Airplay is unstable
3. Random lock/restart
You may run an old and potentially vulnerable firmware (+1y old). Genie will work, but other problems may be related to that version. And you are of cause more vulnerable to cyber attacks.
There is no reason to hope for a firmwareupdate as R8000 is now an older product in Netgears range. So you buy this products with the known flaws, that may or may not be critical to your use, with the well known and -documented support from Netgear.
- ShowsomeApprenticeIn the mean time I will just have to keep catching my teenage son finding porn sites and infecting my computer because I can not access my parental controls!
- ShowsomeApprenticeThe Genie app is just a mess right now there are several threads of people having issues and they have done nothing about it. I have not been able to acces my parental controls thanks to the only being able to get to them through the app. This has been going on for months
- ChadB72InitiateShould work, may work... but it does not. I think you've missunderstood the issue. No one is having a problem updating or accessing via Ethernet. It's that the Genia app DOES NOT work with the latest firmware.

Hi all,
There is no update from engineering yet. Rest assured, this is being worked on.

Is there any solution to this yet? I can no longer use the destop application or the iphone/ipad applications. I can only log onto the router via the webpage.
This is a basic thing that has to work, and it should be very easy for Netgear to solve. I got R8000 today. Shocking to find so little will to resolve or find a workaround - for months that is... Can we trust Netgear to even try solving this?
- Yabx2TutorSame here I have three kids and made me buy this router. It work for couple months and this latest firmware made it useless.
- Yabx2TutorI am calling this weekend and will ask for my money back. If Netgear cares they should send an email or statement at least to all the owners.
- AbeebersAspirantI have been having this same problem! I just bought this router 3 months ago so this is very frustrating not being able to use these features
- Yabx2TutorI am still ybder warranty and have done lots of trouble shooting after the latest firmware upgrade. Still no luck cannot access router using my galaxy s8. The feature that made me buy this a router is only available on the app, setting parental control per device. I want to return the router and get linksys/cisco instead. If we think about it Netgear broke broke our routers.
I've still remained on the previous version. I think I had a response from one of the guys and I ignored it. Tired of being guinea pig for companies when I find something wrong. There was an app update a while back. If someone can confirm it works then I'll upgrade. Otherwise, I don't know. I've been looking into the Orbi mesh product but I'm second guessing whether than's worth it.
