Creating 2.4GHz and 5GHz channel

The Nighthawk App used to show both channels and I was able to put certain devices on my Guest Wi-fi for all my 2.4GHz needs, while other devices remained on my 5GHz channel. Now I cannot find a way in which to allocate the devices. Simply moving them to Guest doesn't work anymore. I must be doing something wrong. If anyone has a good work around that can help me create a 2.4 and a 5GHz within the NIGHTHAWK app, I'd be eternally grateful.

  • Logging in to Router allows so much more access to everything and that was a success. I managed to set up both the 5Ghz and 2.4Ghz networks, however, there is one app (device) that does not want to behave. I cannot seem to locate it under the 2.4 from the 5. This lighting bridge only connects via 2.4. I wonder if I can remove the device altogether from the MR, but it just seems strange that I don't have the option to move any of my devices to whichever network I choose. Prior to this latest NH App, I was able to move devices around via the app and had the lights and bridge working fine. Oh well.

Might try resetting this one device and setup from scratch.
Make contact with the Mfr of this device as well.

You can connect the device to a specific network name/SSID - though that is done in the device itself.

If you are using the same SSID for 2.4 ghz and 5 ghz, then there is no way to provision this in any Netgear router.  But the lighting bridge won't connect to 5 ghz, since it sounds like it only has a 2.4 ghz radio.  So there is no need to set up anything special in the router.

You should check your security settings - is the router set up to allow WPA2+WPA3?  Or is it configured to require WPA3?  Many older devices don't support WPA3.

I've never seen the app or GUI simply "allow you to move them to the guest". Usually, it just allows you to set up the guest network, and then the device must connect to it. Maybe I've missed something because I prefer the GUI to the app but I think you have to change which you or a guest connects to.

maybe FURRYe38 knows more about this.

  • I've checked this router login previously,

but it keeps pushing me to the NH App instead. I tried it again since you suggested it but I'm not sure what to do beyond the App.

NH app isn't required to configure the MR router.

Just log into the MR at 192.168.1.1 with a wired PC and web browser.

If you see the 1st web page display using the NH app, scroll down to the bottom of this page and look for the link that says don't have a mobile device.

What NG router model do you have?

Is this the MK series MESH system?
