How can I use my TorGuard VPN configuration on this router? I only see an option for HideMyAss.

Not posted on here before but having followed multiple threads on the VPN or lack thereof, is there any update as to when support will be provided for VPNs other than HMA? I feel that after 10 months of 'progression' that in fact support will not be provided until the XR700 has been sold to enough customers for an undoubtedly massive profit. What is dissappointing is that the XR500 was not cheap but has blatantly been missold to consumers. Currently I can not reccommend this router to anyone owing to the fact of it lacking a key feature it was advertised to have. If anyone is interested in buying this router then mine will be on a popular auction site shortly should the firmware we are led to believe is in existance not be released in the very near future.

I suspect one of the older posts was correct. Netgear site now showing XR700 coming soon. It'll probably have this feature and those of us who bought an XR500 recently will be stuck with a model that doesn't get any more updates.

That's even better! I came from an Asus RT-AC86U with Merlin FW that allowed me to specify which devices utilized the VPN which was awesome. I didn't think this router had the capability to do that but that was going to be ok as long as I could continue using my VPN Client that I've already subscribed to but when I couldn't see an option, I was pretty dissapointed. Now to find out that the next firmware will support this, and the ability to specify which devices to use the VPN Client on, without requiring the use of a 3rd Party Firmware is excellent news!

At the moment you cannot. However, we are introducing a new VPN solution in the next firmware. That should then allow you to use alternative VPN providers.

  Well that's good news I guess. I have already setup a return through Amazon for the router because of the VPN Client limitation but if a custom option is coming, I guess I can hold off on the return. I was disappointed to see only one Client but figured that HideMyAss must have paid to be the exclusive VPN Client for this router.

    I totally understand and will be much more powerful than the standard VPN client that is currently used. You'll be able to select the individual devices that are VPN'd rather than applying to all devices. If you're interested it will be very similar to this: https://netduma.com/features/vpn-hybrid/

  Fraser, I do appreciate all the hard work you guys have done, but would you guys please refrain from telling customers "next firmware". You guys have a long history and bad reputation of giving false feature release firmware/dates. I have lost count how many features you guys said would be in the "next firmware" that didn't happen. Thank you.
  
  Maybe just use "future release". It encompases a larger time frame without putting you in a corner.

Hi I just bought the etgear xr500 I saw in store that it was a vpn client and I thought thats cool I could really use that as I ussally just use a vpn app or openvpn. But I can't figure out how to choose a differnt VPN server than HideMyAss. No where on the box does it say HideMyAss vpn client. I would like to use this router in china and HideMyAss VPN I have heard doesnt work there. I use NordVPN how do I put that in the VPN client as my VPN server. Very disappointed that it did not say HideMyAss vpn client only on the box if there is no other way to use a differnt vpn. So I could make a more informed on the spot in store decision. As I was asking the store clerks and they were not sure cause it was a new product but told me it should work for me as new routers now have vpn options. :-(

  You could go with a two router solution as others have mentioned or just return it and buy a router with OpenVPN that doesn’t require you to use their own paid VPN service. That’s what I did.

    Yea I returned it going to get a different router and going to research a router that fits my needs instead of an impulse buy. Im looking at the routers recommend by my vpn provider. Like flashed routers with the vpn provider.

So I've been lurking this thread since my purchase of the XR500 back in April. My decision to purchase was based on the information provided by the NetDuma rep which as of 6/28/18 has proved to be FALSE. This pending FW update is nothing more than vaporware at this point and since I'm out of my return window, I'm very unhappy.

As a systems administrator, I'm responsible for the procurement of anywhere between $50-75K per quarter on servers,computers and various network appliances. I will make it a mission to NEVER purchase a NetDuma network appliance within my current/future environments and I will gladly share this information with my industry colleagues as well.

I flat-out refuse to use HMA given the reputation of bending over backwards for local / state / goverment law enforcement. So I've moved back to my faithful Asus AC5300 and the XR500 has been shelved until NetDuma follows through on their promise...but I'm not getting my hopes up...

  Sorry to hear you feel that way but as someone in the industry you must understand there are delays when multiple development teams/SQA teams are working on a project. We're looking into getting beta versions out for people but requires approval from Netgear.

    I also understand the importance of overpromising on something you have yet to deliver on. If you want to assign blame on Netgear makes no difference to me, but that's not going to help your partnership going forward.
    
    If a beta does exist send it to me, I'll test it, report my findings and sign an NDA if necessary.

Any word when we will be able to use a VPN other then "HideMyAss". If a release doesnt come soon (before my return date) Im shipping this router back to amazon and I will leave a horrible review. I was completly mislead with this router and the VPN capabilities.

  You were not misled, dates slip and developing software/firmware is complicated. Also other issues may become more important to fix first for stability over new functionality which is the same with all products of this kind. Netduma have to squash bugs that may appear with different configurations and setups and work along side Netgears firmwares writers too.
  
  Netgear I imagine have the final say in release dates and since there was an update 3 weeks, ago I would wait a while! Also saying you will leave a horrible review unless you get what you want is not the best way to approach the development team and certainly wont get you what you want any faster. The hybrid VPN will be ready when you see it in the release notes and in your routers settings.

    The advertising you've seen has been for a VPN Client which it does have. I understand your frustration and I've contacted Netgear highly suggesting to them that we have a beta version available.

Why is it that if I use ipvanish through my router my download speed is 20mbps but if I use the windows client then its about 200+mbps?

  There is a limitation when using the router, that is why the VPN Hybrid is available so you can apply it to only certain applications/services and then every other device/every other application/service on the device can run through the normal connection.
