Can't logon to Orbi - "Logon timed out, please try again" - FIXED!
It is ridiculous that Netgear's Orbi app STILL has this problem after more than 2 YEARS!
I uninstalled & reinstalled the app because I'm trying to figure out why the app on one of my phones, under Device Manager, shows devices attached - with green status dot indicating that the device is online and connected to the router - that I haven't had attached in over 4.5 years!!!
So after uninstalling and reinstalling and going through the setup with logging in to my existing account, ok'ing using my fingerprint to log in and then getting to the login screen using admin as user & my password, I get this "Logon timed out, please try again..." error.
Imagine my surprise in seeing that, after I google for a resolution, this exact same problem still exists 2 years and 2 months after the post I linked above!
Even the workaround mentioned in the post still works, but now, I can only get the app to connect via Anywhere Access. Trying to switch from Anywhere Access to Local Connection results in the error.
This is pretty pathetic, Netgear. Is your QA\QC team comprised of 1 person and a chimpanzee? Are you outsourcing your software development and QA\QC to offshore developers? Or is it that Netgear just doesn't give a sh*t about the app or errors in it?
If you guys need help finding experienced coders & testers, I am more than willing to point you to where you can find quality people to hire and then you can fire the J.V. team you currently have.
Get off your butts, Netgear!

Same issue here.....noticed Orbi app "Logon timed out" error this morning. Never had issues with Orbi app until today.
Issue -
Unable to login using admin credentials via Orbi app (Android). "Logon timed out, try again later, reboot router". However, logging in locally via web browser works without issue.
Possible Fix (Below steps worked for me. NOTE - turn OFF WiFi on Phone prior to start) -
1. On phone, opened Settings\all Apps\Orbi\Storage & cache
2. Cleared storage (alternative is to uninstall and reinstall Orbi app)
3. Launched Orbi app
4. By checking this box.....I agree
5. WiFi Auto Connect.....Allow\While using the app
6. Sign into existing account (Netgear)
7. Enter credentials.....Log In
8. Add trusted device.....Trust Device
9. Continue
10. Turn on TouchID.....Maybe Later
11. Go to Dashboard
12. WiFi Not Detected.....select Connect Via Anywhere Access
Connected, closed Orbi app, opened app; works okay now!
Steps 4 - 11 not too relevant and may be different on your device. Important step is to turn off phone WiFi to force Anywhere Access to show up during install/connection.
Not sure if this will work for anyone else, but hope it helps!

Wow, appears to be working now. How in the world did you figure this out? Thanks!

For me, I noticed the "Logon timed out" issue occurred while on Orbi version 2.20.2.2506.
A couple of days ago, I noticed that my Orbi app updated to version V2.21.0.2590 and most issues have been resolved. I'm able to login, switch between Anywhere Access and Local connection, etc.
However, for me, on this latest version, the "WiFi Analytics" feature no longer works.....

This looks like a good time to begin a new conversation about this specific issue.(WiFi Analytics).
I have tested WiFi Analytics on the new firmware version V2.21.0.2590 on three Android devices, and all three of them function correctly, both in Anywhere Access and in Connect Locally.
It would be useful to know:
- The model of Orbi
- Firmware release currently on the Orbi
- Type of Android device
- How does WiFi Analytics fail? (not open? error message? incorrect results?)
With the intense scrutiny on the Android Orbi app, it would be a terrible disappointment if all of the app functions have not be tested before release. Perhaps there is some unique condition that causes WiFi Analytics to fail.
I also just found out I have the same problem today. Tried everything this thread suggested but nothing works. I think I need to app to set up Alexa on my Orbi Voice, now the app is not working, I don't know how to set it up ... any other thoughts?
HAVING SAME ISSUE AND UNFORTUNATELY THE APP IS ABSOLUTELY NECCESSARY TO SET UP ALEXA...WHICH IS STUPID BY THE WAY BECAUSE THAT MAKES THE ORBI VOICE USELESS FOR WHAT IS WAS PURCHASED FOR.
- Lpa66AspirantDitto for me, cannot log into orbi via android app, "looin time out, pls try again, if this issue persists, try rebooting your device"
Hi,
I can confirm I'm having the same problem, have tried on 3 different android devices, have cleared cache, multiple times, and even factory reset the devices and satellites which was a real pain in the backside. Can only access and make some changes via logging on to the routers 10.0.0.1 IP address.
I can't believe the app is the one and only place to make changes, why not a windows or web version?

It isn't.The app is possibly the worst place to make important changes. (You don't say there what you want to change or what device you want to control.)
The browser graphical user interface (GUI) is, and always has been, the best option, followed, depending on what you want to do, by the desktop genie for you operating system.
Can only access and make some changes via logging on to the routers 10.0.0.1 IP address.I would suggest that you just aim a browser at that address, but if this is what your router has adopted, rather than the router default of 192.168.1.1, you may have a few other things to investgate.
I've been able to make most of the changes I wanted to make via routerlogin.net etc, but there are some things and status I want to see that are more visible in the app.

What desktop genie app are you talking about?

I started out with a factory reset (since VPNs and upload speeds are not up to standard, but first things first....) and thought that was initiating the problems. I have tried everything in this thread, and nothing will help me managing my network, not from my android phone nor from my computer. The main reason is the login to router failure from the app which is highly annoying.
I'd expect a fix by this time tomorrow, anything else is a big support failure from Netgear's part
- bigrizzGuideThis is just latest in a string of issues I keep having with the Orbi. I'm done with it. This is the last straw. I delusionally hung in with the Orbi thinking that one day they'll iron out all the kinks and it'll be stable and feature rich. I've now officially given up hope. I'm giving up on the Orbi and quite frankly, Netgear. Nothing but mediocre from the day I spent good money on my RBK50. Somebody explain to me why on Earth you would implement a UI for a router and not have the ability to sort your devices by different attributes? Want to find a particular IP? Scroll down looking for it. The UI hasn't changed from day one. My old Asus had sorting ability a decade ago.
You live and learn. Good luck, folks. I'm done. - Eddye1964Aspirant
- enhompeTutorI got my previous RBR50 out of the garage and plugged it in. No problem connecting with the app. Plugged my regular one back in, and I can only connect via Anywhere. Weird problem, this!

NetGear Needs to fix this ASAP. I'm unable to access the app on my Samsung device! It works on my wife's Apple device okay. It looks like the Orbi App doesn't like the new security patch on Android devices.

Not really. The same fault is there on ancient, unpatched Androids.
- KeenEyeTutor
Oh Really? I thought I started to have this issue since my phone was updated. I've submitted a bug report from my app as a lot of others had done. I hope NetGear fixes this ASAP. As I mentioned in my post, this issue is definitely only on my Android device. The App works on Apple devices.
- climbertjhInitiate
Exact same problem for me.
No way I'm turning on Anywhere access just for this app to connect!
Just to pile on, I'm using a Galaxy S21 for the Android app.
The browser interface to the router is slow and old ... but at least it works.
Please fix the Android app! - CrimpOnGuru - Experienced User
Not a problem, because without local access, it is IMPOSSIBLE to enable Anywhere Access
