Additional RBS 750 satellite won't connect to RBR 750 Router

I have an existing RBR 750 router with 2 satellites connected to it for about 4 years now, the system is up to date with its firmware and updates. I bought a standalone satellite to connect to the router, giving me three satellites for my household.

I have tried to pair the additional satellite to the existing system with no luck. Utilizing both the

app-based orbi add a new satellite has failed, as has logging into the admin Netgear site and trying that way. Have done a factory reset to the standalone satellite, plugged it directly into the router,

etc.

The satellite

appears in the attached devices listing with the correct MAC address and under the router, but it shows as an additional device rather than a satellite. I have it plugged in via Ethernet to the router.

Any assistance to get this to act as a satellite would be greatly appreciated. I have heard it could be a firmware issue, but

I am unsure of how to update the firmware to the standalone satellite, as when I try in advanced settings/firmware update, the new satellite won't

show.

Thanks!

Thanks so much for the assist. Talk about Netgear creating a nightmare to add additional equipment after the fact if the firmware doesn't match.

The original means of trying to do it with the static IP address all initially failed. I ended up doing the following.

    1. Plugging it directly back into the original router.
    2. Find it on the attached devices, take its IP address, and input

      it into the browser.
    3. It took me to the satellite's standalone Orbi webpage, where I was able to manually update the firmware
    4. Once all of that was done and a power cycle, it showed up as a satellite and then was able to add it to the router network finally.

Appreciate all the help with this!

The FW on the new incoming RBS may not be at same level of FW as the current existing system. All units have to be on same level of FW.

Give this a try and see if you can get the new incoming RBS to same level of FW on it:

Orbi Satellite (RBS) Self-Service Web Page Access | NETGEAR Communities

Need a PC or laptop with a ethernet port connection and LAN cable connected to the back of the incoming RBS...

What FW version is loaded on the existing system?

  • The system is running V7.2.7.15. Im attempting to now utilize the web access you linked. slight user error i believe.

Ok, once you get into the RBS web page, send that same version of FW for the RBS. There is a RBS file version for the RBS.

This situation that Netgear created where a router will not recognize a satellite unless it is running exactly the same version of firmware is quite frustrating.

In addition, there is conflicting information about what IP address a satellite will assume when it is factory reset and not connected to a router.

The article cited above says that the satellite will assume 192.168.10.250, which implies that the computer should be set to a static IP address in the 192.168.10.x subnet.

However the User Manual clearly states that the satellite address will be 192.168.1.250, which implies that the computer should be set to a static IP in the 192.168.1.x subnet

    (see page 130: https://www.downloads.netgear.com/files/GDC/RBK752/RBK752_UM_EN.pdf

So, is the User Manual simply incorrect?  Was the User Manual correct at one time, and was not updated when Netgear changed from "1" to "10"?

It would be helpful if you could "not give up too soon."  If trying one static IP address fails, please try the other.  It is quite a chore to set up this exercise since both the computer and the satellite must be connected only to each other.  and then after the effort, the PC has to be changed back to the regular DHCP method of getting an IP address.
