Cannot detect WD cloud home device
I have Orbi RBR350 Mesh Router.
I also have a WD home cloud personal storage, and I can access it from the internet
or my cellular using Android APP any time I want,
but for some strange reason, the router doesn't show the device or detect it,
as if it is not there.
My laptop doesn't see the device also, though it is there for sure.
Why?
How can I change this?
thanks,
Eyal.

Have the the My Cloud Home desktop app installed on your Windows or Mac computer, providing quick access?
While this isn't Netgear issue, here what the WD User Manual: My Cloud Home and My Cloud Home Duo documentation says:
===
Mobile App
The My Cloud Home mobile app provides robust access to a My Cloud Home device and content
management on Android and iOS platforms. This is the app used to setup the My Cloud Home device.Web App
The My Cloud Home web app provides quick access via an Internet browser on different operating
systems and does not require software installation. This app can be accessed through the My Cloud
Home desktop app or at the following URL: home.mycloud.com.Desktop App
The My Cloud Home desktop app provides quick access through a Windows or Mac computer. To
install the desktop app, follow these steps:
1. Open the My Cloud Home mobile app on your mobile device.
2. Select the 3-line menu in the upper left-hand corner.
3. This will expand the menu system. Select the option Get desktop app.
4. This will open the Get the desktop app box. Select the SEND option and an email will be
sent to the email address used to create your My Cloud Home account.
5. Once the email arrives, on your desktop select either the PC Desktop App or MAC Desktop
App, depending on what operating system your personal computer uses.
6. After clicking one of the selections, a web browser will open. Follow the onscreen
prompt to save the file.
7. Open the file that was downloaded and follow the onscreen prompts to install the My
Cloud Home desktop app.
8. After the desktop app installs the Allow Analytics screen will display. Select either Allow
or Don't Allow.
9. Next, login with your My Cloud Home account information.
10. When prompted, choose the OPEN IN EXPLORER (OPEN IN FINDER for macOS) or OPEN IN
BROWSER option to view the My Cloud Home device.
a. Depending on the operating system, the OPEN IN EXPLORER option will open the My
Cloud Home device in Windows File Explorer or OPEN IN FINDER in macOS Finder.
b. The OPEN IN BROWSER option will open the My Cloud Home device in the My Cloud
Home web app.- eyalrtAspirantHi schumaku,
Thank you for your reply. I really appriciate the time tou spent with the manuals and docs. I really appriciate the big effort to help me.
I had the desktop app, and it worked perfectly, untill recently: WD has changed their policy, and they have removed the app support. It no longer provides access, and if I try, it blocks me, saying it is not possible anymore.
This can be achieved only by cifs/samba directly from windows networking.
but windows doesn't see the device.
The router itself doesn't display the device.
I say doesn't display, because I cannot understand existing of scenario in which any router routes data from a device outside (I can connect from mt cellular) without seing it. is it even possible (hardware/mac layer...).
So it is a question of configuration. The router sees the device, but doesn't report it/ displays it, and this has nothing to do with WD. This is the router configuration, or a bug....
Even if my laptop connects directly to remote server, and from there it send packets to my storage drive, the router routes the data.....
So I am trying to think positively: It is surely a matter of configuration.
I hope someone here may help....
thank you again for the help.
What is the Mfr and model# of the Internet Service Providers modem/ONT the NG router is connected too?
Something you might make contact with WD regarding support and information there product.

Hi FURRYe38,
I have a fiber cable from the ISP connected directly to a TP-LINK Fiber to RJ45 convertor.
No modem. none is needed.
I have contacted WD. They say windows should detect the drive using CIFS/Samba,
do they are aware their drives has a problem with NETGEAR routers.
They don't know why, but I am not the first one...
thanks,
eyalrt

A little bit vague. CIFS would become visible if SMB 1.0 is enabled. Much more I would guess WD want to say the WSD announcement (along with SMB 2.x and SMB 3.x)) and/or the SSDP announcement as a storage device does not pass the router for whatever reason to be investigated. This would mean all users of industry standard NAS (AsusStor, QNAP, Synology, WD, even the ReadyNAS users) would have an issue....

Can you please provide the model number of this device?
My brief look at the WD web site for Home Cloud shows only Ethernet connectivity (on the 4TB and 8TB models).
I agree entirely that when this device is connected to the network, it should appear on the Attached Devices display with an IP address. Is the hardware MAC address printed on a label? (Even $10 smart plugs often have the MAC address printed on them.)

While the WD information available (and almost nothing on Windows or MacOS device access beyond of the named apps) seems to be rather limited to non-existing: The current models with a single HDD in the 2..8TB range seem to have an Ethernet LAN port, indeed.
The curiosity question? Where and how is this device connected to the network? As here are no signs of it on the router, it's well possible a direct cable is connected to another device. For example the ISP modem-router?

Hi CrimpOn,
This is a WD (Western Digital) Home Cloud 4TB device,
You can find the details here:
https://www.westerndigital.com/products/cloud-storage/wd-my-cloud-home#WDBVXC0040HWT-NESN4TB part number is WDBVXC0040HWT-NESN
I have the MAC address on the back label, of course.
This is a very good device. I am very pleased with it.
Only now I cannot mount it on my laptop.
thanks for the help.
