Firmware Update Instructions:
To update your product’s firmware, follow the instructions in your product’s user manual. To find your user manual, visit https://www.netgear.com/support/, enter your model number in the search box, and click the Documentation button on the product page.
If you manually update, be sure to update the RBS first, then RBR lastly.
NOTE: After the FW files are loaded and the RBS and RBR are ready, power OFF the RBS and RBR for 2 minutes then back ON. Unplug the power adapters from the power wall outlet.

WOW, this morning about 2am i decided to update my two ORBI RBS satillites first. and that went ok, till a fantom ORBI showed up in my Orbi App. i then proceeded to update the RBR750, that went well till it said it was online but it wasnt. i followed the directions according to Furrye38, (ty) and i unplugged the sats and then the router, waited 2-3 minutes then i plugged in the router and then the sats and waited........it took a few minutes and the router came online then the sats followed. it still took some time for all my devices to get back on line (about 60), which is normal thing that has been happening. then today was the test. we had some heavy thunderstorms roll in, these south florida storms alway knock out some power or damages some weak transformers to were the power goes on and off real quick. it happened 3 times in a half hour i also have the comcast modem and the RBR750 plugged into a surge and battery back up. the weakest like here is the sats, no battery-back up for them and they used to take forever to re-sync but after the upgraded firmware last night, WOW, the ORBI's came right back online which shocked me, i thought i would need to reboot the sats. but no input from me and the whole system came back online quick. i am no IT guy here but this is a major inprovement from the previous firmware that almost killed the ORBI system. thanks to all here on this forum, i have learned alot from here.

RBS750 Unable to fetch new FW version. The below status staus forever.
Tried manual upgrade of RBS750. Not sure how/ which credentials to login to the popup login page
Could someone help, please!
I am not sure why my screenshots are not updated in my above post .. so here is what is happening
- Found Router & Satellite firmware new version
- Current version
- RBR750 V4.6.3.16
- RBS750 V4.6.3.16
- New version found
- RBR750 V4.6.5.14 https://www.netgear.com/support/product/rbr750.aspx
- RBS750 V4.6.5.17 https://www.netgear.com/support/product/RBS750.aspx
- Unable to get online update active as the satellite got stuck at "Please wait a moment" as status forever
- Tried Satellite FW update manually but i get a login screen saying "Your connection to this site is not private"
I am not sure what credentials I need to use and why is this screen popping up.
- Surprisingly after several tries I started seeing the updated firmware for both router and satellite. Clicked update allFinally the update completed successfully and I could see in the Online Update >> Status table that both RBR750 and RBS750 are updated to V4.6.5.14.
But the version info on the top right corner still shows older version V4.6.3.16_2.0.51After a couple of refreshes the version info on the top right corner also got updated to V4.6.5.14_2.0.54My issue is resolved. Thank you!
- Firmware still broken.
Satellite still regularly cycle between white flashing light, blue, nothing.
So tired of this.- FURRYe38Guru - Experienced User
Try a full factory reset, power OFF for 5 minutes then back ON and setup from scratch.

It’s the firmware, it’s bad. It’s that simple.
Both wireless and wired units still losing DHCP/DNS (internet connectivity fails, have to release/renew IP address). I have recommended Orbi to so many people... but how on earth does it make sense for a firmware update to require a full system reset? Might be fine for me to do... but it blows my mind that this is the go to solution for literally every post?
Lights not working right - factory reset
Can't access the internet - factory reset
Backhaul not working - factory reset
Satellite connectivity issues - factory reset
Going for a drive - why not do a factory reset before you go? It's super simple, barely an inconvenience!!
Brilliant stuff guys. Top notch.

A firmwware update doesn't require a full system reset. I'm one month into using Orbi after 6 years on the google wifi platform. Three firmware updates on the Orbi and not one issue of the devices not updating, nor not working properly after rebooting from the update. Obviously, everyone's use case is different, with differeent hardware in between these mesh points, but running everything stock in a 50 year old house has yielded excellent results.
I think NG should be commended for actively updating the firmware in an attempt to address everyone's issues.
DNS issues are not the result of an unmanaged switch, I am sorry to say. Especially having also had Orbi's for years - this is new. Firmware update - spontaneous DNS issues. You can say it's "disparate hardware" that causes people to "rise up" but when things are working fine, people aren't posting. They're just using the product. You cannot release a new firmware, magical issues pop up, and then say, welp, must be your stuff that stopped working at the same time you hit that update button! Time for a factory reset.
I have a lot of friends and family who swear by these things. Hiding behind factory resets and what walls are made of every time a firmware update wrecks a system is no way to conduct support. That's absurd. If those issues were always there, I would have been posting about this all day. Actually, I probably would have just returned the dang things and gone with something else. Consistent results UP UNTIL a firmware update is not the fault of my ethernet lines, my unmanaged Ruckus switch, or my various devices connected the network. It's the firmware. Plain and simple.
So I decided to try out this firmware tonight and have experienced huge speed drops, from around 940mbps on the previous firmware to around 40mbps on the new. I've factory resetted everything twice with no luck. I'm about to go back to the previous firmware, at least temporarily, to see if that brings things back to where they were. I have to say the amount of effort and troubleshooting required to keep this system working is beginning to outweigh the usefulness to me...
- WRSORBILuminary
This happened to me also. Factory reset made no difference. The fix was simple. NG had me go in to 'internet setup' and change MAC address from 'default' to 'computer'. Reboot and had full bandwidth restored..
- J823TutorFor me the update does not work as well, random disconnects, even after several factory resets.

I have the RBK753 package (1 router, 2 satellites) and have upgraded to this new firmware with NO IMPROVEMENTS whatsoever over the previous version. Same frequent connection drops, occasional speed drops. The only change is really the LEDs not lighting up anymore during the connection drops. So I guess that was the only change NG has done. Really lame!!

What is the Mfr and model# of the Internet Service Providers modem/ONT the NG router is connected too?
What is the size of your home? Sq Ft?
What is the distance between the router and 📡 satellite(s)? 30 feet or more is recommended in between RBR and RBS📡 to begin with depending upon building materials when wirelessly connected.

NG router connected to a Bell Home Hub 3000 modem (I'm up in Canada) The service I have is Fibe 500 (500 Mbps up/down)
House size: 2300 sqft, 2 stories
The distance between router and satellites is mode than 30ft
I did not perform a factory reset since the last firmware update. I was thinking about that, but to be honest reading some comments from others who performed it, not sure it will help. I might give it a try just in case.
Thanks!

Look - here's the deal - you got the firmware update, right? So you are on 4.6.5.14 which is why you are here.
It's not your ISP, it's router, or anything else the other person is asking you to do. The following are the only things to do until Netgear pulls it's head out of its perverbial backside and fixes their code.
- Are you in your retailer's return window? Return and go get an ASUS system or something else. Netgear lost its way and I don't see them getting back on track. They have been unresponsive to us during this 4.x Firmware Fiasco.
- Power down your Orbi system (ISP Router won't matter unless you know it's the problem). Leave off for a few minutes.
- Power up the router, let it settle down, led turns off, etc. You can connect and get services.
- Power up one of the satelliites. Let it connect, settle down.
- Power up the other satellite. Let it connect, settle down, etc.
- IF - that doesn't resolve the issue, do the factory reset after you made note of your settings. MAYBE backup the settings first - FURRY7SeriesBMW is REALLY intent on people doiing that but I've seen some posts saying redoing your settings manually was part of their fix.
- IF you still have issues - hopefully you are still in your return window and take it back, get something else. You'll be better off in the long run. OR - if you want to try contacting support - don't pay for it - only if you are in the "free" window.
Good luck! I'm researching the Asus AI-Mesh myself - looks promising.
- jamacphotoApprenticeN3tworkDud3 Thank you
So sum up his post lol
We are sol as all the fixes kindly provided do not fix the errors and will come back hopefully later than sooner
For me the laters firmware is 100% more unstable as have issues daily and before was every 2 weeks and before was perfect .
Guess will research Asus AI-Mesh thanks
RBR750, (3) RBS750's, connected to Xfinity 800mbps service via Motorola MB7621 modem. New install; I went through the entire excruciating "try and try again, it'll connect eventually" setup routine and eventually et to the final step: update the firmware to latest version. Which I did - and boy, do i wish i had read this forum first!
The AX4200 system performs wonderfully (at least, the router and 2 of the 3 satellites do) for a while - and then, the router completely loses its connection to the modem and starts leading a digital parade to nowhere. Until I reboot the router; after which, everything is fine for another 20 hours or so... and then it goes stupid again.
I have gone through the whole "Power cycle the modem, then the router, then the satellites" dance recommended incessantly above; it isn't necessary. All I have to do is reboot the router, and when it comes back up everything is fine.. for a while. Unfortunately, the router is in the attic, so rebooting is highly inconvenient. This simply isn't good enough; i paid way too much for a system that only works for 20-30 hours in a row. I certainly hope that Netgear engineering takes these reports of disconnections and dropouts seriously and urgently gets a fix out the door so we customers (alph testers?) can try something better.

I had the same issue. Here is what I was able to figure out. I have Verizon Fios and hang the Orbi off that router. The Orbi then creates a new network on the 10.x.x.x addressing. The FIOS router hands out an ip lease for approx 24 hours. I noticed that every 24 hours the Orbi seemed to lose WAN connectivity. Wifi appeared to be up, but Internet was down. Rebooted, good for about a day, down again. I ended up getting on my FIOS router and set the Orbi as a static ip and then jumped on Orbi and set the WAN port to static as well. That was 3 weeks ago and no downtime since. Also have gone thru the latest firmware upgrade without any issues. Heck I upgraded the firmware of my satellite while I was on the beach, 3 hours away from home. That is how confident I have become in the stability of my Orbi setup.
In the five weeks I have had the Orbi system, I have experienced 15 mins of downtime and two reboots. Since setting the WAN to static three weeks ago not one issue. No idea if what I did is the right answer, but it seemed to stabilize my system. I know your network setup might be different, but it seems like the lease renewal on the WAN port might be a good first step in troubleshooting this issue.
I'd recommend trying the above and see if things stabilize. Good luck.

Are you using IP pass thru or DMZ on your Verizon router? If you have two routers on line at the same time, could be another issue if you keep the RBR in router mode. If you choose to do this, use the IP pass thru or DMZ feature on the Verizon router for the RBR in router mode.

- jamacphotoApprenticeOk back from vacation and took a few reboots for Mac to see /get on wifi. One on changed the ax radio button from on to off and did a soft reboot . So turned only ax off just for 2.4 and when it came back all was working again. Before then was getting purple , after soft reboots, on one or both satellites after soft reboots and sitting for a bit. Also kept dropping and picking up Wi-Fi devices.
So now for 2 days on latest firmware that was all I did. Have 2.4 at 50% and this allows evenly balanced devices. Speeds are good like before .
Sadly could not do some of these via web app/remote
We will see if it continues- FURRYe38Guru - Experienced User
👍
And this is with v14 loaded or did you revert FW back to v3?

4.6.5.14
Had downloaded the v3 software and was going to downgrade. But thought let’s try one last thing and turned off AX 2.4 and nothing else and reboot.
I did remember others turned off AX and did not want to turn it off for 5 but thought why not 2.4 as only wifi devices use it.
And boom on reboot all connected right away including iMac .
For previous week rebooted remotely from another country and nothing worked and only had 1/3 of my devices and one satellite was usually purple / offline.
Hope continues

There are check marks on the Basic tab/Wireless settings tab next to AX mode:
2.4G and 5G
Just remove a check mark and select Apply.

I'm running a RBR750 wifi6 with 2 satellites. System is 2 months old and updated to 4.6.5.14 on Wed. 10/13. It was working flawlessly until this last update. Since doing so, devices would lose connectivity intermittently - only for 10-15 seconds - but this would occur for extended periods of time. 1-2 hours, then stabilize, then occur again. Makes working from home using Zoom a bit problematic as the connection is continuosly dropped.
I hard reset the entire system and rebooted from the modem --> router --> satellites. Didnt correct the issue. I reset to factory configuration. This also didn't correct the problem. Luckily, I purchased Pro support - the first time doing so could be considered a good investment.
The technician had me change 3 router settings using the Web interface:
1. Basic --> Wireless --> Changed 2.4Ghz channel to 11 from auto
2. Basic --> Wireless --> Changed 5.2Ghz channel to 44 from 48
Hit apply, router updated.
3. Advanced --> Setup --> WAN --> Changed MTU to 1472
Hit apply, router updated.
I asked the technician on 2 separate occassions if doing so would have any performance impact and was told, "absolutely not". We shall see... but since making the changes, I haven't had any outages and the connection is stable. Speedtest indicates similar metrics to performance before the firmware update. I'll double check in the morning.
Hope it's helpful for others having the same problem.

Sounds like you may still be within your return window. I'd take it back and get something else. This isn't the first time you are going to have issues. You will wake up to new firmware when they push it and it will be when you really need your system to work - not on your day off or a convenient time. Netgear has lost their minds and have pushed firmware over the past year or so that didn't help but caused issues for many. This past firmware has been an utter disaster.
- SergeLApprenticeCan anyone translate those settings?

I wouldn't see a need to change the MTU unless your on a specific DSL modem service which those usually need. Most Cable and Fiber use 1500 MTU...

- SergeLApprenticeI think I solved the latest firmware issues. I found one of the suggestions and followed it, my system is currently running on the latest firmware without any issues or additional tweaks.
The steps are:
- Download the latest firmware for satellites and the router.
- Update individual satellites, one by one. Wait until it fully applies firmware, and each becomes visible in the UI.
- Power off all satellites
- Disconnect your modem or pull cable from the WAN port, then update the router.
- After the system is up, power it off ofr a couple of minutes and do the factory reset of the router with pin.
- Wait until the system is up, restart your modem, and reconnect WAN.
- Do system setup, skip adding satellites
- Power up one satellite, and do factory reset with pin.
- Add satellite through web UI
- Repeat for other satellites
After executing all those steps this morning, my system is rock solid. No reboots, no outages.
I guess the factory reset of the whole system while it was disconnected from the internet did the trick...
now would be the time that netgear gives us an info. There are so many people who have problems. And the solution can t be to do a downgrade (not the same functionality like parent control etc in 3.x not availaible, at least i m paying also for the amor and for the parent control already). issues can happen but it s unaccaptle to not inform their customer. it will be enough to get a info if they are working on it or not. Do they see the issue or not. So netgear please give at least a info.
- jamacphotoApprenticeLol
Now is not the time…
That time was a month or more ago.
Lol
Like others I have reached out to Netgear and they acknowledged that there is more than likely an issue with the firmware, and they said they get a lot of calls about it. They also said they have no idea when it'll be fixed but are working hard on it.
Sadly we have seen 2 fixes in firmware (I believe ) and no real fix.
I am just glad my system is back to stable again for over a week
Good luck all - FURRYe38Guru - Experienced User
NG doesn't give much if any forth coming information regarding future FW udpates. No router mfr does. Be like this for a long time.
NG is aware of the issues at hand and we can presume they are working on it. Fixes do not come over night. It's already been posted that other users have contacted NG support and have expressed there problems to NG support. So they KNOW about it.
I recommend not using @ netgear tag in post. You can see that this profile hasn't been used since 2015. If you want to tag a active forum moderator, tag @ Blanca_O and DarrenM.
Good Luck.
