Spectrum Streaming App no longer works with my Orbi Wifi, but works when NOT on Orbi wifi
In short:
- Spectrum Streaming app update broke our app
- Guide says, "No data available" and we cannot choose a channel
- Any other attempt to choose a live-stream channel is met with a black screen
- Happens on Roku with Spectrum app and also on mobile phone
- App works when NOT using Orbi, does not work when reconnected to Orbi
- All other apps work
- Spectrum Tech said to disable Armor (done)
- Spectrum Tech said to change IPV6 setting (was disabled, but now set to DCHP)
- Spectrum Tech said to factory reset Orbi (done)
Equipment:
Orbi RBR750 with two satellites
Device model: Roku stick 3820X Streaming Stick, also Samsung S20 and iPhone 11
Operating system: Samsung S20 = Android 13
App version: Spectrum TV 15.4.0
Thank you so very much for any help!
Yes, that's the modem. That's the one we got after the problem started.
They're not going to help us. They wouldn't even give us credit for the whole time we've been without the service.
I cancelled.
Thank you very much for your help.

Got to be something specific with your setup. I use Spectrum with my Orbi with no issues.

If all other apps work thru Orbi and this one just stopped, would be something with this particular app. Something Spectrum should look more into.
What brand and model# is the Fiber ONT?
Did you disable IPv6 and test. IPv6 isn't really needed.

Yes, we've talked to 5 people at Tech Support at Spectrum and had 2 techs come to the house. They told us to contact Netgear because the app works if we're not on our wifi at home. It works on my phone when I'm away from home and stops working when I come home and am on Wifi. I totally agree. They've changed something and can't fix it. They've left a couple of senior citizens to figure this out for ourselves. Maybe it's time to cancel Spectrum!
IPv6 was disabled when this whole thing started. We enabled it as one of the suggestions to make it work.
Thanks for taking time to look into it for us.

Had the app worked before on the Orbi system?
Has anything changed on the Orbi system, mobile device or app update since the app stopped working?

APK Mirror has plenty of previous versions of the Spectrum app:

Thanks for your help. We genuinely appreciate it.

No. AP mode requires a router.
We often suggest users manually install a previous version of firmware when troubleshooting Netgear router issues.
Probably not a possibility with the Spectrum app on Roku or iPhone.
(might be possible with the Android phone. i.e. delete the Spectrum app and then load a previous version from an APK repository.)

Yeah, I know that...
I missed the reply where OP provided his equipment details, and was guessing he might have a gateway, and not just a modem.
FWIW, I have verizon fios, not spectrum. But still there are several scenarios when verizon apps fail when double-routing. I had to set up a second Orbi network using AP mode to get my set top boxes to work properly (since the verizon wifi didn't reach them).

We have a fiber optics modem with no router. Would AP mode still work?

Have you tried a different DNS provider?
I'd try that first.
Make sure that if IPv6 is enabled, you change both the IPv4 and IPv6 dns providers.
- JosieDanTutor
Thank you. I changed to another DNS service, made sure I specified it for both IPv4 and IPv6, rebooted the Orbi and still no dice.
