  • This request is a year old. I was searching the 970 threads for other user experiences with the AT&T BGW620-700.I have one w/5G fiber service. I’ve had it for about 8 months with passthrough to a 970 and one satellite. All WiFi radios disabled on BGW and all security performed by AdvancedArmor on BGW and Armor on 970 disabled.  All this said to indicate there is a ~10% throughput reduction from BGW to 970 although not unusual with passthrough overhead on BGW.  I may switch to AP on the 970 but with 5gbs service, not noticeable.  BGW performance ~5300gbs up & down. 970 ~4700 down and ~5100 up. 970 firmware latest v12

Is IPv6 enabled on the RBR?

What CAT# LAN cable are you using between the BGW and RBR? CAT6A STP is recommended.

How are you speed testing? Ethernet PC for speed testing is recommended for best accuracy.

Let us know if you can test AP mode on the RBR to compare results.

Cat 7, IPV6 disabled on BGW and 970. Rebooted both devices for this retest, BGW then 970. Testing using BGW internal Speedtest and 970 internal Speedtest. Not using PC since the NIC  is max 5G - Intel chip.  Passthrough follow. Will test AP and will post over weekend.

Set 970 to AP.  Reset BGW to factory defaults (no passthrough). All Wife disabled on BGW and DCHPS set to Fixed.  Rebooted both.  Performance results no change on 970.  See below.

  • I recently upgraded to 5Gig Internet from AT&T, and the installer who came to do the upgrade installed this modem. I have been using it for about 2 months now with my RBE971 and one Orbi satellite. So far, I haven't noticed any issues.  Orbi router is working as the router with the BGW620-700 in Passthrough mode.

Is Protection Enging enabled or disabled on the RBR?

What is this CAT7 cable? UTP or STP?
      Try CAT6A or CAT8 STP?

Brand and model# Ethernet NIC in PC?

Are you speed testing with Ooklas speed test app on the Ethernet PC?

Protection Engine off. Cat 7 STP. REALTEK PCIe 5G.  Only testing with Ookla in the routers.
