Help save my marriage 🤣
Heys guys
Sky Q
Sky hub 4.2
orbi rbr850 with 2 satellites.
so I’ve tried to get this working myself but the tech terminology has me frazzled.
As sky doesn’t allow bridge mode I put my Orbi in AP mode and turned off the WiFi on sky hub.
Now I get full signal but internet very slow to load any webpage,YouTube etc
it works but so slow.
i have 3 gamers in the house and finding great difficulty getting access to play games online.
i followed a few videos to open ports but I must’ve done something wrong along the way.
i want to test it out tonite and was thinking a factory reset of sky hub and Orbi would be best as fresh install.
anyone have any tips of step by step guide to get this up and running properly.
i have 2 satellites and one is hard wired and other is upstairs and has good wireless bakhaul.
i can provide screens of my setup if that helps?
The wife is getting agitated so help is greatly appreciated
thanks guys
Dave

What speeds UP and Down do you pay for from the ISP?
Test a either net connected PC connected to the ISP router to check.
Be sure your using a good quality LAN cable between the modem and Orbirouter. CAT6A STP is recommended.
What Firmware version is loaded on the Orbi system?
What is the size of your home? Sq Ft?
What is the distance between the router 📡 and satellite(s)🛰️? 30 feet or more is recommended in between RBR 📡 and RBS 🛰️ to begin with depending upon building materials when wired or wirelessly connected.
https://kb.netgear.com/31029/Where-should-I-place-my-Orbi-satellite 🛰What channels are you using? Auto? Try setting manual channel 1, 6 or 11 on 2.4Ghz and 40 to 48 channel on 5Ghz.
Try disabling the following and see:
Armor, Smart Parental Controls or Circle, IPv6, Traffic Meter.Does the SkyHub have a DMZ? If so, try the Orbi system in router mode in the Hubs DMZ.

Is this what you mean?

You could enable DMZ server for the RBR in Router mode if you want to try that. I would. See the IP address on the RBRs web page under Advanced Tab/Internet Section for the IP address. Input this IP address into the modems DMZ Server there and check mark it as enable then select Apply.
I would remove the check marks for Respong to Ping on Internet WAN port and WAN port IPv6. This means nefarious scans could see your modem. A security risk if enabled.
If you have a friend, family member or nieighbor what has some tech experience, might ask for additional help as well.

Unfortunately I’m our tech experience but I can follow direction or can screenshot the options available for you to help 😁

I’ve followed YouTube and web pages tutorials and I thought I had it sorted.
i can put up screenshots if that helps?
I took loads 🫣🤣

I’m not very pc literate but I did take pics of both sky router settings and orbi settings too.
to my untrained eye,all looks good but obviously not

Sky offers several types of internet. Which specific Sky service is this?
For example, customer routers can connect directly to Sky fiber:

Hi guys
i tried the DMZ option and put Orbi in router mode.
i see I have that option 61 on Orbi that sky needs
ill attach he’d a few pics of setup of sky router and Orbi router.
i may have made mistakes but it working.
if ye would check to see did I do anything wrong that would be greatly appreciated
thanks

Ask the ISP if the Option61 is needed if the Orbi router is behind the ISP Router. I don't believe it maybe needed since the ISP router maybe handling this already, however never hurts to configure it as see. The ISP will have this info. If it's working good, then you might leave it for a while and run some tests and let the family check it out and give you feedback.

it works but so slow.FWIW, I am not seeing the ORBI screen showing AP mode in your screenshots. That is on the advanced tab (then select advanced setup in the left pane). It'd be good to confirm that you are in AP mode.
What are you getting with speedtest.net?
Can you connect a PC to one of the Orbi router's LAN ports, and check the speed there?
Then connect to a sky hub LAN port, and compare the speeds.

I believe he's in router mode since I mentioned using the DMZ on the host ISP router and to try router mode on the Orbi, and he seems to have configured the DMZ for the RBR. So AP mode would not be needed for this configuration.

Cheers for the help guys
ill get all the kids to try all devices and see if there’s issues.
i checked my ps5 in the bedroom that’s connect to WiFi and it had a couple of updates for games and it had them done in 5mins
a 23gb update and another 3gb which is much faster than previously would e had.
my boys who are on xbox series x had restricted Nat and double Nat but I then changed the port in the Xbox manually and it changed to open 🤷🏻♂️
it makes me feel like I’m almost there 🤣
it’s why I posted all the pics incase a trained eye would spot something in the menus that would help
no doubt all goes to **bleep** at 4pm when the kids get home 🤦🏻♂️

In all of this, I cannot seem to find confirmation of which specific Sky service this is. If it is fiber:
- There is no need for the Sky Hub at all.
- The RBR850 can connect directly to the fiber ONT in the default 'router' mode.
- There will be no double NAT.

We're going for ease of setup and configuration since the user seems to be limited in experiences.
The user can get with the ISP for there help if they see fit to get the RBR connected more directly with the ONT. The ISP can be more helpful there in that configuration if the user sees the need.
