I have spent weeks trying to get my pixel 8 pro to work on the orbi 970

I have spent weeks trying to get my pixel 8 pro to work on the orbi 970. When I first got it every time the pixel would connect to the router, the router would immediately reboot. They gave me beta firmware which I think helped but sometimes would still kick the phone off the network. I presently have have firmware v9.10.2.3 on the router and I connect fine to the satellites it seems with the same firmware but if my signal gets handed off to the router it immediately kicks the phone off the network and the phone eventually connects fine to a satellite. Is any new firmware in the pipeline to help with this? I am writing this at 3am because I need my phone to connect reliably to this network. The orbi 960 system worked great with this phone and the pixel 7 pro for the past 1-2 years.

    Hi There,

Engineering team here. There is an issue that is not fix in V9.10.2.3, we have a target fix for upcoming firmware where client sometimes cannot connect to network. Client will say "Connection Fail" and will ask for password again. This issue will sometimes recover by itself. This issue is mainly seen when moving around network.

Another issue is related to Pixel 8 not getting internet but it is connected to a Satellite fine. This issue we currently debugging and looking to fix ASAP as well

I have firmware version V9.10.3.1_1.1.16. Every time I go downstairs the signal should hand off to the router and my phone will just say my network has no internet access with an exclamation mark and I have to reconnect. Are there any firmware updates I should try?

  • FYI, new FW available:

Unfortunately this firmware update did not fix the issue. I am having the same issue with samsung 24 ultra. I changed phones from the pixel 8 pro to samsung thinking this would help. I still have a pixel 8 pro I can test so will see if it changed anything in the next few days. I have 4 satellites. When I walk upstairs with full signal wifi calls will drop or if I walk outside. I will have to manually disconnect from my wifi network and reconnect to resolve the issue but only if I don't walk to other rooms. However this issue is not as pronounced on the IoT network. Anyway I hope a solution will come some day.

      • What is the size of your home? Sq Ft?

Does this happen with turning off all but one RBS?

Still happens if you disable the IoT and Guest Network?

What channel configurations are currently set on the router?

What is the distance between the router 📡 and satellite(s)🛰️?

  • Hi folks after preliminary testing, I can say that I believe I have noticed improvement with the new beta firmware V9.12.5.305719_1.3.24. It still has issues handing off the signal to a closer satellite when on the outer range limits. I have to disconnect from the network and reconnect to connect to the closer satellite. I have at least been able to stay connected to the main network instead of only the IoT network. I also get better cell service in the winter and I recently upgraded to att 5 gbps fiber and could explain some of the improvement also. I get about 1.5-2.4gbps down and about 1-1.5gbps up on wifi speed tests if I'm in the same room as satellite or router. I will try a 2.5gbps ethernet to usbc adapter and will look into other 10gbps pcie options for my desktop. I may downgrade the fiber to 2gbps after a month until I can get those speeds on all my devices. I can stay connected to the main wifi network after this last firmware update so I think there has been some improvement. I will keep testing.
