Orbi 370 Wired Ethernet Throttled to 200 Mbps (Wi-Fi reaches 600 Mbps)

Hello, I am looking for help troubleshooting a persistent speed bottleneck on my Netgear Orbi 370 Wi-Fi 7 Mesh System. My ISP is Hawaiian Telcom Fiber (900 Mbps download).

  • The Orbi App speed test measures a perfect 900 Mbps coming into the main router.
  • Wi-Fi devices easily pull 600 Mbps download / 500 Mbps upload.
  • My wired PC connection drops drastically and caps at 200 Mbps download, though the upload reaches 500 Mbps.

Troubleshooting already completed:

  1. Verified the computer's OS link speed is fully negotiated at 1000/1000 (Mbps).
  2. Verified no ASUS or Realtek network prioritization bloatware (like GameFirst or Turbo LAN) is installed on the computer.
  3. Performed a full Windows network reset and verified TCP Auto-Tuning is set to normal.
  4. Swapped out Ethernet cables and tested different LAN ports on different PCs and laptops on the Orbi.

Because Wi-Fi is fast but the hardwired Ethernet ports are choking the download specifically to 200 Mbps, I suspect there is a specific Orbi firmware bug, QoS setting, or profile limitation happening on the router side. Any advice?

What is brand and model# of ISP modem or ONT that the RBR is connected too?

What FW version is the 370 series running currently?

Does this happen with a different ethernet PC?

Be sure your Ethernet adapter drivers in this one PC are fully updated from the chipset mfr.

Be sure to disable any QoS or gaming features on the adatper prior to speed testing.

Be sure to use Ooklas installable speed test app to test with on the ethernet PC.

No bug in current 370 series FW. Mine tests out at 1Gb/50Mbs to sped for my ISP speeds over ethernet.

ISP Modem is a NOKIA XS-101X-Q

      Firmware is v12.1.3.11

Yes this does happen with multiple PCs

      Yes drivers are updated.

      QoS and gaming features disabled

      Yes using Ookla speed test

What speed results do you see with the speed test on the RBRs web page and using Orbi app on a mobile device?

What speeds do you see with a Ethernet PC directly connected to the Nokia ONT?

What brand and model# are the ethernet adapters in these PCs?

Is the PC connected to a satellite?  Or is it connected to the router?

If it is connected to one of the satellites, I suggest testing while connected to the router.  That would help sort out whether this is a backhaul issue (or not).

Thank you the PC is connected to the directly to the router.

        OK.

You said above that this happened on multiple LAN ports.  The router has only one LAN port.  Is there a switch connected to that port?  Or did you mean you've tested this on both the router and one of the satellites?  If not, it would be useful to test on the satellite LAN ports, and see if you get a faster download speed.

Do you have a switch handy?  If the PC is directly connected to the LAN port, then it would be useful to see if inserting a switch between the PC and the router helps.  The LAN port is multigig, so it is possible something is going wrong with the speed negotiation.

Also, are you using cat 6 cables?  If not, then what are you using?

The only method available to users is to download the firmware images for router and satellite from the web site, unpack them, and then use the Manual Update process on the web interface. (satellites first, router last)

The most recent firmware for the router and satellites is here:

I doubt that the firmware is the issue, but there are security fixes, so you should update it.  Note the firmware for the satellites is different from the router (and the update will fail if you accidentally install the wrong one).
