Orbi 770 satellite drops clients when IOT or Guest networks are activated
I’ve a 770 mesh system with router and one satellite. It’s V1 hardware running the latest (10.5.20.10) firmware.
Repeated tests confirm that the satellite stops serving all connected clients (both wired and wireless) soon after either of the Guest or IOT networks are activated. At this time the router status page indicates that the satellite is connected (both 5ghz & 6ghz) but the connections of all satellite clients are greyed out / disconnected.
This behaviour will manifest even if any of the following are done:
- satellite placed within 5m of the router followed by reboot of both
- satellite within 5m of router and factory reset of satellite followed by reconnection
- only one of IOT / Guest networks enabled
- wired clients disconnected
- wifi channels changed from default
Once the problem occurs the only way to recover reliable operation of the satellite appears to be to factory reset the firmware on both router / satellite and then set the system up again from scratch.
Has anyone else encountered this problem?
I’ve raised a bug report with Netgear but so far no response.

It would be really helpful to see a screen capture of this.

Does this happen if the RBS are not connected and just the RBR running?
5m is too close from the RBR to RBS. 10m is starting distance in between the RBR and RBS and each other.

It’s just the satellite that drops clients. The router appears to work as expected when IOT / Guest networks are enabled.
Distance of RBS from RBR doesn’t seem to affect outcomes. Same problem occurs at separations of both 5m & 20m.
I’m guessing it’s a firmware bug - but would be interesting to know if anyone else is seeing this problem.

Reads to me like the the config change enabling IoT and/or Guest network is not deployed correctly to the satellite or satellites.
KevinLiT any ideas?

Can you access the satellite web page from a client connected to the router when this happens?
Browse to satellite-ip/status (using the real satellite ip address of course)

The Attached Devices web page continues to show devices connected to the satellite, but differently from devices connected to the router?
i.e. name, MAC address, IP address, etc. but with a different appearance?

After the Factory Reset and configuration, how long does the system function normally? i.e. does it fail immediately when either the Guest of IoT WiFi networks is enabled?
