Orbi 772 Satellite disconnects

At the end of last November, I started a thread about a problem I was experiencing with the Orbi satellite I had just purchased as part of an RBE772 system (Internet access frequently dropped at Orbi RBE770 Satellite | NETGEAR Communities, https://community.netgear.com/discussions/en-home-orbi-be/internet-access-frequently-dropped-at-orbi-rbe770-satellite/2406749).

At that time, NETGEAR Support was not able to resolve the issue, and I had to return the system within the 30 day return window.

That system had Firmware release 10.5.13.1.

Does anyone know if that problem has been resolved with the latest release 10.5.18.3? The release note is not clear to me about what problems were solved.

I would like to purchase the same system again, because its functionality fits my needs, but will not buy it again unless I know the disconnect problem has been solved.

Thanks

  • I will mark it as solved, but I don't know if it is completely true. As they say, absence of evidence is not evidence of absence... or, it is hard to prove a negative.

It is a fact that I have not had the same Internet disconnects issue so far, after 3 weeks, so that may be cause of optimism

I had my 773 series online earlier this year and hadn't seen any issues with RBS failing to get internet and devices connected at the RBS. Others haven't posted recently of having issues with there RBS. I know there were some having issues at the RBS cauing bad latency every hour. Something I could not reproduce with my system while I had it online.

I see there is newer FW for the 870 series which the 770 series should be on case base code so I'd expect something for the 770 past v.18.3...Just not sure if or when anything newer will appear.

    Something to give another try.

  • Sounds like you think it may be safe to try and purchase again the RBE772, correct?

  • So far, my new Orbi 772 system, with FW release 10.5.18.3, has been remarkably stable for about 3 weeks.

The router is connected to the satellite via wireless backhaul. I have two Dell XPS desktop computers connected to the LAN ports of the router and about 14 wireless devices (two laptops on main network and a number of smart appliances, cameras, etc. on IoT) distributed between the router and the satellite.

Aside from a minor issue with reporting networking status in MS File Explorer, which may actually be a quirk of MS Windows 11, I have not found any show-stoppers, but I continue to monitor closely.

I have elected not to take the new FW release 10.5.19.5 yet, since the system seems to be working, at least in my relatively simple application. I also want to see the feedback from other users of the new FW, before taking the plunge.

Well if the new system is working past what the old system was doing and your not longer experiencing the same issues as before and has been working well for you, then I would call it solved. Kinda points to possible faulty 1st system and your 2nd system seems to resolve that.

Overall glad the 2nd system is working for you.

  • Just one more comment from me: I now don't believe the first system had any hardware problems.

Instead, I think the problem was fixed in the following FW release 10.5.18.3, which was available by the time I bought the second system.

I just could not take the risk with the first system, as I was up to the 30-day window to return it and I did not know if and when a new FW would fix it.
