RBE970 Orbi 970 stops Broadcastin WLAN SSIDS

My Orbi 970 Stops broadcasting the WLAN SSIDs sometimes (about once a day) and all devices lose contact. I have to reboot the router.
Opened a Netgear Case. But so far they only told me to factory reset it and  leave everything default see if it happens again. And yes it does.

When The router is in that State I can still access it from Internet with "Anywhere Access" and i can do a Speedtest on the router and see that Internet is connected on full Speed,
Wired Connections (LAN) do still work so i can Access Internet on my wired PC and can also connect the router to initiate the reboot.

I have two internet providers and it happens on both.. So no matter if i am Connected to Cable Internet or ort FTTH it happens exactly same. (Ok on FTTH i have various additional Problems but its for a seperate Thread)

Very frustrating if you buy the most expensive Router available.

Does anyone have the same experience? Or even a Solution?
Or do i just have a bad device?

  • My Orbi is on Firmware: V9.12.2.1_1.2.10 (Router and Sattelite)

I recently changed my Internet Provider from a Cable(TV) to a Fiber FTTG that uses PPPoE Login.
I have this Problem on my router that forces me to reboot the router  regularly:
    https://community.netgear.com/t5/Orbi-WiFi-7-BE-Mesh-Systems/RBE970-Orbi-970-stops-Broadcastin-WLAN-SSIDS/m-p/2379608/highlight/true#M1726

     No Reconnect of PPPoE
Since i am on FTTH PPPoe (Provider Init7 Switzerland) after the Reboot, the Orbi does not connect to the PPPoE anymore. I have to disable PPPoE, reboot the Router, then Set up PPPoE again and Reboot the Router again to get back my internet Connection. !!

    Slow Upload on Wired Connections
When the router is connected to the internet (Speedtest at Rourer give 4000Up and 4000 mbps)
On Wlan Connected devices i get a good Speed too.
But wired Connections, no matter if i am connected to 10 gbps or 2.5gbps Port i get an Upload of a few kbps on virtually every speedtest i could find.
Its exactly the same Problem that is described on reddit here 7 Month ago :
    https://www.reddit.com/r/orbi/comments/177y2nh/orbi_970_wired_upload_speed_on_gigabit_01_mbps/

The funny thing is obviously the upload is nt bad for everything:
MS Teams works fine for Audio and Video and Chat (Cam up and downstream is good)
But uploading a File to MS Teams is terirbly Slow.
Reading on the Netgear Community works find but posting something results in Timeouts.
Uploading files to Google Drive Works.
Uploading an Image to Gmail iszt extreamly Slow.
All Speedtest sites report drastically low upload.

This all happens only if the Router is connected to a Synchronous FTTH Conection with PPPoE
My Old Router does not have this Problems oin the same FTTH PPPoe Setup.
So its clearly a Problem of my Orbi

Ideas anyone.. I can not tell you how disapointed i am after buying such an expensive device

What is the Mfr and model# of the Internet Service Providers modem/ONT the NG router is connected too?
Be sure your using a good quality LAN cable between the modem and router. CAT6A STP is recommended.

Can the ISP router be put online and used as the PPPoE handler for the ISP services?

Please contact NG support regarding this PPPoE issue with the 970 series. I believe they will need to take a look at this.

    How many RBS are deployed?
What is the size of your home? Sq Ft?
What is the distance between the router 📡 and satellite(s)🛰️? 30 feet or more is recommended in between RBR 📡 and RBS 🛰️ to begin with depending upon building materials when wired or wirelessly connected.
    https://kb.netgear.com/31029/Where-should-I-place-my-Orbi-satellite ‌‌🛰

Does this happen with the RBS turned OFF?
Does this happen with both wireless and wired devices?
What channel configurations are currently set on the router?

Can you post the top portion of the text data from the RBRs web page here? 192.168.1.1\debug.htm

Any features enabled on the RBR, Guest Network, Armor, Smart Parental Controls and IPv6?

Can you get a USB FAN to put on top of the RBR?

unfortunatley admins put two vcompleatly different Problems in one here!
i dont understand the step of putting two compleatly different topics in one.. this will make it impossible for future readers to find it

      First Problem Stop WLAN Broadcasting
The Stop of Broadcastig WLAN SSIDS i have allways. No matter what internet Provider/Modem i connect to.
And it does not have anything to do with the size of my home. The router stops broadcasting the SSID's. Thats a Fact.
all devices i talk about are less than4 meters from the router no walls.
Its not that the devices do not see the router. the Router stops Broadcasting

Are you really suggesting its an overheating Problem.. would be awful.. ill try but then im worried about summer

Second Problem The Problems with FTTH PPPoE i have only on my Fiber Provider.
As soon as i am Connected to the Fiber Provider Modem Zyxcel PM7300.TM XPON all Wired Connections have practically not Upload on all speed Tests. Dpownload is fast as hell. And see the linked Reddit Chat.. The user there has very exactly the same!!

Distance between satelites 3 m. wooden Floor... but i dont have a problem with Sattelites it all happens too when the Sattelite is turned of.

I was on it with Netgear support so far.. so no nothing at all is configured. Even the SSID is left original. No Access lists, Nothing is configured.

The Second Problem ist that the router simply does not reconnect to PPPoE after reboot. I Ordered a Router from My Provider that will do the PPPoE Login and i can user The Orbi behind it so i have a workarround soon..
      Bit its Frustrating

Thanks for posting the debug page information. That looks good here.

Actually size of home is a factor, why we ask for this size please. And how many RBS are deployed and distances between the RBR and RBS please.

Yes, seems that a couple of other posts from users have posted about putting a fan on top of the RBR unit seems to have stopped there odd diconnection or reboot problems. Something to try on yours.

        https://community.netgear.com/t5/Orbi-WiFi-7-BE-Mesh-Systems/Orbi-970-Constants-Reboots-Solved-Router-overheating-is-the/td-p/2376066/jump-to/first-unread-message

Possible you also may have a faulty RBR as well.

The PPPoE issue will need to be handled by NG, I've already passed this along from the Reddit post and others over in the Orbi AX and AXE forums last year. Seems there maybe a wider Orbi issue with users with ISPs that require PPPoE that NG will need to take a look into. Other users have temporarily worked around this problem by putting in a different host router or use the ISP router to handle the PPPoE configuration and then configure there Orbi systems for AP mode, while NG gets this fixed. No idea when that will be so best recommendation is to open a support ticket with NG if you haven't already.

It may be time to RMA the system and request an extension on Netgear's 90 days  of 'complimentary support'.  (Switzerland may have regulations which affect that.)

We suggest trying the fan because it appears there may be manufacturing issues which result in overheating and it would be convenient to document whether this issue seems to be related to overheating (or not).  A system that totally ceases broadcasting WiFi indicates a total failure of some key component that may have no 'cure' except replacement.

Thanks thats what i Think to, i never had a behaviour like this.
To me it looks like a devectice Device.

But what about the other Problem. The one with LAN Connected devices that do not get Upload Speed?
This problem is compleatly separated from the WLAN ISUE. (Still dont understand why the Threads where merged)

As Soon as The Orbi is Connected to the FTTH PPPoE Environement all devices that are conected by Wire (LAN) have no more (extreamly slow) Upload while Download is perfect.

To explain again i have two Providers:
a cable modem on that infrastructure i get download and upload OK
Fiber Modem ..FTTH PPPoE and i get very bad upload (only wired ..wlan is ok) Speedtest onm Router is 4GPPS Up and 4GBPS down.
Why i know its not the Provider.. because Everything on the now Provider works well with another router. And because i found a 7 month old redit Thread that describet exacrly the same... in the exaclty same environement. FTTH PPPoE i linked the Tread above.
This looks like a software/Firmware Issue. And should be quite Easy to Test for Netgear.
