Known Issues:

For users seeing a Access Denied message after the FW is loaded and processed by the router, users will need to press the reset button in back for 10 seconds then release. https://kb.netgear.com/9665/How-do-I-perform-a-factory-reset-on-my-NETGEAR-router

Walk thru the setup wizard with a wired PC and web browser at 192.168.1.1 resolves this issue.

No saved backup configuration file is loaded. Access to routers web page returns. Then go back in and make a new backup configuration to file.

To update your router’s firmware, follow the instructions in your router’s user manual.

https://kb.netgear.com/23960/How-do-I-manually-update-the-firmware-on-my-NETGEAR-router

NOTE: Nighthawk app or the routers web page may not report seeing new FW updates. NG may not push this to there auto update services immediately and may activate the newer FW update being seen on there auto update services at a later time. User will have the choice to manually update if you want too.

To Manually update FW on the router if this isn't seen on the routers web page:

https://kb.netgear.com/23960/How-do-I-manually-update-the-firmware-on-my-NETGEAR-router

NOTE: Use a wired PC and web browser to update router FW. If continued problems are seen after a FW update, it's recommended to try a factory reset and setup from scratch with out loading any saved configurations from backup files.

https://kb.netgear.com/9665/How-do-I-perform-a-factory-reset-on-my-NETGEAR-router

NOTE: Recommend setting the default DHCP IP address pool range to the following after applying and a factory reset: 192.168.#.100 to 192.168.#.200

This only supports v2 models:

Um, was this version of FW seen but the routers Auto Update feature?

Far as I know and can find, this new version is ONLY for the RAX50v2 model. I looked and didn't see anything for all other v2 model RAXs. Just the 50 series.

I In the past the RAX50v2 and the RAX54v2 firmware has been interchangeable. I have received beta firmware to help me and Comcast resolve and IPv6 issue that was labeled RAX50v2.  Anyway it seems to be working fine with the additional benefit of increasing my Wi-Fi speed.  Near the router before the update my speed was in the mid 600Mbps and now it is in the mid 800Mbps.  My wired speed can go up to 940Mbps.

Routers usually reboot themselves after an update.

      Didn't that happen with you?

Yes, the router rebooted during the firmware install.  However, I had no internet access.  To regain internet access I needed to power cycle the router.

  • I updated the firmware and can no longer login into the router from any of my computers.  I can however access it via the Nighthawk app.

The login appear to be stuck in an infinite loop, which is showing a serial number different from my router.

Probably best to factory reset the router and setup from scratch with a wired PC and web browser then.

I updated the firmware today (10Feb24) and I can no longer log into the router from any of my computers. However, I can access it through the Nighthawk app. I am getting the same error. It was fine in the previous version.

I don't want to go back to factory mode, there is an alternative to revert the version but I can't enter.

      Thanks.

I found if  you disconnect the modem  you can login with no internet connection. Then simply go to the support download page and manually update back to 1.1.3.18. I have no idea why this is happening and have tried everything under the sun factory restarting router and modem in different orders to no avail. I cannot login via PC nor app. There is a new feature being added under Advanced, Security called Protection Engine and have tried disabling it but still no workie. I'm running the updated firmware now and just disconnect if management is needed which isn't very often but pisses everyone in the house off ; ) Hope someone realizes what is wrong and they release a hotfix soon. Good Luck

  • Netgear finally updated the firmware for the RAX54Sv2 to this firmware versaion.

Do NOT load a backup configuration file. Access to routers web page returns. Then go back in and make a new backup configuration to file after the router is set up from scratch.

I also saw this issue with my RAX50v2 after updating to v.28 FW. A factory reset and walk thru the Setup wizard solved it and I got access to the WEB UI on the router using MS Edge. Users can revert to prior working version of FW as well.

If this fails for you, then you'll need to contact NG support and have them help you out.

Be sure to make a new back up configuration to file for safe keeping.

        Enjoy. 😉

      Hey!
Please fix the issue with country lock !!!
I see people who experienced troubles with that had bought it overseas!!
Why is that closed option? I have no clue... ((( I need to change the region!
Please devs do that for us!

Region is locked to where the device is meant to be sold at. You can't just change as you please.

This just recently happened to a clients router. I tried resetting to factory, got to the screen, spent 1.5hrs resetting everything manually only to have it fault back to the access denied page!

I am not certain the SSL cert is valid from NG either which might also be an issue.

What browser are you using? Happening in a different browser?

Did you reload a saved back up config after the factory reset or manually reset and setup from scratch with out loading any back up config from file?

  • I was unable to log in to a family member's RAX50v2 that I manage for them after this firmware update. After reading this and some other threads, I disconnected the Ethernet cable from the modem to the router and was then able to access the web settings. Disabled the Protection Engine in Advanced -> Security (was on by default), hit Apply, powered off the router, cabled it back to the modem, powered it back on and was able to access the web settings again without having to factory reset. May not want to leave it like this with Protection Engine off, but seems like the jury is still out about what that does exactly (a Netgear support page says it protects against "certain security attacks," and I'm reading that it might be related to BitDefender)?

Do this with the WAN cable disconnected from the ISP modem first.

I read your reply early today and took it upon myself to drive to the clients to try this.

Thank you. That worked! We had never thought of disconnecting it from the WAN to prevent Netgear's wonky URL error from reporting back to home base.

        Again Netgear fix this!

  • was at the clients again yesterday to make some changes and realized the issue had returned, not sure when since my last post but unless the router is disconnected from the WAN there is no way to access the web UI... also noticed there have not been any FW updates from NG since my last post.

So after doing the factory reset, and going back later on, the problem returned? Can't access the WEB UI? Seeing the Denied Access web page?

  • Thanks for the update on firmware 1.1.4.28. I’m currently running 1.1.3.xx on my RAX50 V2 and it’s been stable so far.

Has anyone noticed improvements or new features with 1.1.4.28—especially regarding Wi-Fi stability, VPN performance, or device connectivity?
Also, is there a changelog anywhere that details the exact fixes?

I’d love to hear your feedback before deciding whether to upgrade.
