Hi

I’ve had my modem and router for a couple of years. Everything was working fine till couple months ago my internet has been buggy.  I noticed the modem upstream light will blink green then stop. Now the upstream is solid amber. I did two power cycles however the upstream remains solid amber. My internet is working so not sure if my devices or my ISP. Does anyone know a solution? Do I need to have my ISP come out to check the lines or do I need a new modem or router?

Need to see the data from the cable connections page and event logs please.

  • Frequency start Value
This field below allows you to modify the frequency the cable modem start with its scan during initialization and registration. Enter the new start frequency and restart the cable modem for it to take effect.

Can we get the Event Logs page data as well.

Power for some of our channels is too much and too high.

      https://kb.netgear.com/24311/Power-level-guidelines-for-a-NETGEAR-cable-modem-router

I'd day get a -3 or -6dbm cable coax line attenuator installed.

Here you go. Seeing a lot of critical.

The coax line attenuator is that something I need to connect my ISP or can I do it myself. Where would I replace the attenuator?

  • I apologize for multiple messages. It wouldn't let me copy/paste or upload images. Additionally, my modem has been acting up and keeps rebooting. I'll power cycle and reset everything, it will load up, then do it again. I have to reset a couple of times before it stops. Right now it's fine, but I know in a couple of days it will act up.

When I log into Netgear, it shows I'm on Firmware Version V10.01.07, and I'm with COX internet.

Hi yes, its the same thing, it just got cut off. How do I unlock it?

While I DID crimp some coax connectors 30 years ago, I have NO IDEA.  I would start with calling Cox technical support and saying, "my modem says that the upstream channel is not 'locked'.  Is this something your tech can fix?"

p.s. My guess is that this means your upstream bandwidth is half what it is supposed to be.

  • Thank you, I'll contact my ISP. Do you think it has to do with the lines inside or outside my house, given that I have warning and critical event logs?

My guess would be outside.  Cable techs are REALLY good at checking things.

You got some channels that are too High in power some that are in the opposite direction but with in the power range:

    https://kb.netgear.com/24311/Power-level-guidelines-for-a-NETGEAR-cable-modem-router

Any Criticals, Errors or Warnings seen in the event logs needs to be reviewed and resolved by the ISP. Indicates a signal issue on the ISP line up to the modem.

Have the ISP check the signal and line quality UP to the modem. Be sure the ISP provisions the modem correctly.

Be sure there are no coax cable line splitters in the between the modem and ISP service box.

Be sure your using good quality RG6 coax cable up to the modem.

Start with removing any amplifiers, signal attenuators, or splitters from the coax.

From there check the line for kinks, damage, moisture in the line.

Check the connectors for improperly made ends, foil touching the copper coax line, loose connections, bad/old/cheap connectors, or corroded connections. Replace them if you do.

Be sure to power OFF the modem for 1 minute then back ON.
