firmware update - c6300 - can't happen?
so no firmware updates can happen with my 'customer-owned' router? Netgear, what is going on? my information is at risk without the current firmware, my product does not work without the current firmware and spectrum/twc says you are responsible for giving me the firmware update - not them. they refuse to do it, though they have it....how can i get the latest firmware update? this is a great failure - i guess i have to look for a modem/router that provides manual updates? HELP?

Any of the combo devices aka the modem/router combo devices have their firmware controlled by the ISP. This is true for all manufacturers and not just Netgear.
If you want control of your firmware, you need to seperate out the modem and the router. The isp will still control the modem firmware but you'll be able to control your router's firmware.

Netgear does provide the ISP firmware but its up to the ISP to push it out to devices. Many ISP don't do so because they have to validate it which costs $ and time. And inevitable, they're going to blame the manufacturer whenever you talk to them. Its a sad state of affairs when it comes to combo devices. its why I don't recommend them to anyone.

I've heard the Spectrum isn't keen on users having there own modems nor pushes FW to modems that are owned by users and not the ISP.
As suggested, if you feel your modem is not working well or at all. Get into a modem that Spectrum fully supports, a modem only unit if possible. Then get a external router like Netgears Orbi, R/RAX series or XR series routers which are supported by FW updates directly from NG and users can install themselves.

yes, so initially, i purchased a different brand modem/router. spectrum said it wasn't on "their list" of supported, so i purchased this netgear - that was on their list and that they support. they changed their plan without notifiying me. they no longer update any customer owned routers, and asked why don't i have one that they give me? well, theirs don't work, and they were the ones that suggested i buy one they support. so frustrating, but it is what it is.....yes, i will get a spectrum owned modem and go down another notch in my wallet for yet another router. thanks to all for the fast reponse - i loved my netgear product and will probably look at the orbi system - is this best in terms of range and speed?
thanks all!

Ya, some ISPs are like that. Hard to deal with. I would find a different ISP if possible.
If you have to use one of there modems, ask for a modem only. Then get in to a external router. Like Orbi. Orbi 50 series systems have great wifi coverage and performance.
Good Luck.
