Slow WiFi Cax30 xfinity

I just installed a Cax30 with Xfinity wifi. Speed going into the router is about what it should be near 400, but wifi coming out is around 80.  I tried different locations etc,  but wonder if there are some wifi router settings that may increase the speed. Thanks .

What wireless device are you suing to speed test?

What speeds are seen with a ethernet connected PC or laptop?

Thanks. Using an iPad and IPhone. I’ll try using a computer with Ethernet and report back.

  • Just for the heck of it, I switched to 5 ghz and getting over 400 speed.

      Where you connected to 2.4Ghz?

Is Smart Connect enabled or disabled?

I had selected the 2.4 wifi on all my devices. Didn’t enable Smart Connect. Then I selected 5g on my iPad and the speed increased. Same for my phone. I left my printer at 2.4 and the two devices still print to it.  My apartment is small so I’m not concerned with distance. I’m just amazed at the difference in speed.

    2.4Ghz isn't as fast as 5Ghz.

    Try enabling Smart Connect.

Thanks. I logged onto the 5g network and speed tripled.  Didn’t do Smart Connect, though I will try it.

That 80mbps is about all you can expect from 2.4ghz. Its a mure slower network and sensitive to interference. 5/6ghz are both significantly faster (multigig speeds if close enough). I usually only put my IoT devices on the 2.4ghz and make sure my streamings and those devices that roam are on the 5ghz.

Thanks. I didn’t realize that the slower speed was to be expected. I am impressed with the 5ghz speed and will put my TV on it as well.

  • Just wanted to report. Been running the Nighthawk for a few days now. The speed issue that I had no longer exists. Running two televisions, laptop, iPhone and iPad at 5ghz, my printer at 2,4. With Xfinity plan of 400, I get a speed test on the iPad as high as 453. Printing has been no issue….other than mistakenly first connecting it to 5ghz.
