Using modem CM1000 with firmware V6.01.02 and Cox ISP?

I currently have a CM1000 and firmware V6.01.02 was deployed upon activation with my ISP, Comcast. I want to upgrade to a better modem and give my current CM1000 to a family member but they have Cox as their ISP which, according to this Netgear Support document, approves firmware V3.01.04.

Will my family member be able to use a CM1000 with firmware V6.01.02 and Cox ISP?

  • Cox may download there FW to the CM modem for use on there system. Each ISP does there own testing and some FW development before pushing out to modems. So ISP FW versions maybe different. Some ISP won't update user owned modems. You'll have to get with COX and have them activate the modem and go from there.

Should? I can't say 100% because people have had issues before when changing modems between isp's. But it shoud.

What modem are you upgrading to?

the CM1100 and CM1200 use basically the same chipset and the main benefit is link aggregation. Which I don't consider much of a benefit as many people have issues with link aggregation for stability and speeds.

Fingers crossed then that the newer firmware is compatible or that Cox can rollback the firmware.

I am upgrading to the CM1100 and am going to attempt to use link aggregation. If The CM1000 with firmware V6.01.02 will not work with Cox I will just send my family member the CM1100 and keep the CM1000.

What router are you using with the link aggregation?

Check through some of the forum posts. Not everyone has issues but if you do have issues with the link aggregation, there's quite a few posts with tips/tricks for getting it running better.
