Windows 10 (A6100 A6200 A6210) Installation Heads Up
As a heads up, DO NOT install Netgear's driver package for your A6xxx device on Windows 10. It permanently removes Windows 10’s ability to access the WiFi Connections list.
Instead, use the default driver that comes with Windows 10, of which will freeze when you try to connect to networks until you complete the installation of Intel’s new Chipset Drivers here:
https://downloadcenter.intel.com/download/20775/Intel-Chipset-Device-Software-INF-Update-Utility-
If that still doesn’t work for you, try the following:
Go to Network List, select the network you are trying to connect to, hit “Connect”, you should see “enter password” box and also a message about using WPS to connect, then instead of entering the password go hit the WPS button on your router.
Your adapter should connect and function completely now.
For problems with the windows 10 included driver with the a6210 (e.g. no 5ghz networks visible) just use the latest driver from mediatek (5.1.21.0).
It is the newer version of the driver that came with windows 10 and with it i can join my 5ghz wlan, which wasnt able with the old one!
The chip in the A6210 is a Mediatek MT7612U.

yes i doubt this will be fixed any time soon.. its already taken too long..
Anyway, its not perfect but i'm using a bat file executed from the task manager every minute to check for a network connection.
The bat file disconnects and reconnects the wireless adapter if the network is down. This will have to do until the drivers are fixed or I can figure out a better method.
good luck all ..
ps.....shame on Netgear and piss on MediaTek.... p.s. do not buy any wi-fi device that uses a mediatek chip /firmware .. Mediatek is primarily to blame for this lack of reponse/fix. This problem is not isolated to Netgear.
- smintzAspirantCan u show us the tact of the bat?
- ed_diAspirant
bat file ... use your own router ip, and wifi details ...
just create a task to run every minute...
==================================================
echo off
echo Testing wifi
ping -n 2 -w 200 -l 64 192.168.1.1 & if errorlevel 1 goto reset
goto done
:reset
echo Restarting Wireless Adapter
netsh wlan disconnect
netsh wlan connect ssid=dd-wrt name=dd-wrt interface=Wi-Fi
:done
echo done====================================================
you can add something like the following after the connect line to log the number of resets that happen..
echo %DATE% %TIME% Restarted wireless adapter. >> c:\\reset.log
you may also want to hide the execution of the script to prevent popups... lots of ways to do that via google....

just when I thought it couldn't get any worse, now it's to the point to where I start up my computer and it's already not connecting. Have to unplug and plug it again and it connects then drops in a few minutes.
ed_di I'm gonna try out your batch file and see how that works out for me. Thanks for sharing that!

- smintzAspirantIt's easy to blame Netgear I too never had a problem with Dlink. BUT many of the posts here also mention win 10. It's not stable enough driver-wise.

ATTENTION ALL A6100 A6200 A6210 OWNERS
I HAVE THE SOLUTION TO ALL YOUR WINDOWS 10 WIFI PROBLEMS IF YOU UPGRADED FROM 7 OR 8.1 AND LOST WIFI.
Hi all, like a lot of you I had the problem of having no wifi after upgrading to windows 10 from windows 8.1.
I had installed Netgears driver for my A6200, device manager said it was working correctly with no yellow warning triangle.
However there was no Wifi adapter listed in the network adapters and it was as if my Win10 had no wifi functionality - I even tried other adapters.
I uninstalled and reinstalled the netgear driver a million times.
I tried removing the DNI_DNE thing in command prompt and fixing the registry (I didnt even have that problem)
I finally gave up and used my AV powerline network kit...
But I never really gave up.
So here it is the method to fix the issue
Theres a little known secret that you can reinstall Win10 without losing your current set-up - for my method though, you will need a way of connecting to the internet via a network cable to begin with.
This is different to the options you have of reinstalling while retaining files. This method keeps everything including your installed programs.
- MAKE SURE YOU HAVE YOUR NETGEAR USB WIFI STICK PLUGGED IN EVEN THOUGH ITS NOT WORKING
- Go here https://www.microsoft.com/en-gb/software-download/windows10 and click "Upgrade Now"
- Download the Win10 upgrade tool
- Run the Win10 upgrade tool and accept the Microsoft license terms
- Click "Change what to keep" its written in small font, its there just look for it
- Select "Keep personal files and apps"
- Double check you have selected keep personal files and apps
- Click install and let windows "upgrade"
Once thats all done (about 30 minutes for me) your computer will reboot back to your login screen or desktop and everything will be as it should.
You should now be able to connect to both 2.4Ghz AND 5Ghz networks and your driver will be functioning 100% with all settings that were previously missing.
If you have any questions, please feel free to ask and I will see if I can help.
Oops, Kraster is right. I spelled out my best analysis of the problem but forgot to mention solutions (other than waiting for MediaTek, RealTek and Broadcom).
I have the A6100, so this may or may not help A6200 folks. For those that cannot see their 5Ghz bands:
1) In your router, (Wireless Network tab or equivalent) set the 5GHz SSID channel to a non-DFS channel (36-48, 149-165)
2) To start, make sure your channel width is set to 20 or 20MHz and channel bonding is off if you have that setting...they are usually on the same page as #1
3) Ensure your USB adapter driver properties are set to region 0 if you are in the US. If you're elsewhere, I'd recommend setting it appropriately
This should get you connected. However, with 20MHz channels and no channel bonding, your throughput will be fast, but not as fast as it could be. Start with bonding off and 20MHz width in order to verify this is your problem. After that's done and you can connect, you can experiment with increasing the width to 40 and/or 80. However, keep in mind, when you increase the width, you are using multiple channels (the one you select is *usually* the center I believe)...none of which can be a DFS channel. If you go 80, that limits your channel choice to only two channels (for me, it's 44 or 157 but some routers can be configured by selecting a upper/lower, upper/upper, lower/lower, lower/upper configuration which would change the channel numbers that work while keeping out of DFS).
If DFS and channel bonding are things you're not confortable with messing with, sticking with bonding off (or 20MHz width) on any of the channels in item 1 is still *very* far from slow.
After updated drivers come out (via Netgear or Windows Update), set your router back to auto (5GHz channel) will probably improve your speed a bit by avoiding the congested non-DFS channels.
Correction: A6200; not A6100

i have not had the random disconnects on windows 10 with my 6210 BUT i am having trouble getting it to connect using the AC, i noticed today that since i owned this adapter and a nighthawk x4 that it's been using wireless N and not AC, i only noticed this because i bought a steamlink and having bad performance with it and now i know why.

I made the mistake of puchasing this product without first doing proper research only to find how terrible the issues are with Windows 10 still. Every time I boot up my PC and log in the dongle disconnects and takes a half a minute to reconnect again. Every single time without fail.
Will Netgear ever respond to this 26 page thread and actually do something about it???
- Retired_Member
I registered just to comment. I purchased this sorry excuse for a network card thinking it would boost my speed over an older D-Link USB adapter I am using. Boy was I wrong.
This thing constantly disconnects and I have to reboot, only for it to disconnect over and over and over and over. I cannot for the life of me understand how this product can be such a joke. Netgear is a large company with a ton of resources, and you are telling me they cannot get 1 or 2 people to fix the drivers for Windows 10?
This is pathetic. I will never be purchasing another Netgear product.
Current status for me:
After manual installing the mentioned mediatek driver a few weeks ago and forcing Windows 10 to not take / update any other driver by itself, i have no problems anymore.
5ghz, no disconnect, no bluescreens and USB 3.0 (not 2.0 like with the netgear driver).

- smintzAspirantCouldn't agree more. With the punt of complaints you'd think they could get one of their monkeys to fix it
- I think netgear should replace these devices for us. They are not cheap.i hated windows 10AND the fact that i could not use the device without a work around so i switched to linux. Come to find out, it won't work with linux either. Screw netgear (and the chipset manufacturer)!
