WN2500RPv2/N600 Dual Band Issue - 2.4ghz network keeps dropping

I am having major issues with my wireless network. This extender keeps dropping the 2.4ghz network for some reason. It keeps the 5ghz connection with the router, however, I have to keep rebooting the device or changing the wireless channel to get the network to start broadcasting again. I can ping the network but the extender doesn't broadcast it at times. The issue definitely does not reside with the router as it maintains the main network without dropping. The extender is set with a static IP. I am using fastlane:  Router-to-Extender in 5GHz only and Extender-to-Device in 2.4GHz only (Router must support 5GHz band).

  • Hi btmblue,

Look for firmware upgrade if any and if issue persist, try to reset and reconfigure extender and see if that resolve your issue. Hope, you have set a better channel and no interference devices nearby as well as no much obstacles in your environment.

I updated to firmware V1.0.1.52_1.0.66 and still have to restart my extender at least once per day. I have not been able to find any help on the Netgear websites in regard to this issue. My WiFi router is also an N600 Netgear and I have access control setup on it but not on the extended. I only have 2.4 GHz enabled on the extender and on the router yet still I have to restart the extender regularly. I only have 3 pieces of equipment connected to it, 2 iPhones and a Ring video doorbell, everything else in my Connected home is attached to the WiFi router. Any help is appreciated.

Hi, that link is for the 5Mhz, which I do not have enabled. Is it the same for the 2.4Mhz? I read a lot in the past about differences between the two and thought I did good by moving the 2.4Mhz to 11. It does have an Auto setting but what I read a while back advised against it as the switching may cause interruption. What just said is for my router. The problem is with my extender which is set to match the router at channel 11 for the 2.4Ghz. What’s your recommendation?

Yes follow the same process as in the 5ghz KB and the extender will follow the router but it could make the signal between the two better which may improve your issue.

  • Well I’ve tried everything I can think of and I’ve taken all advice, I still have to restart the extender as it keeps dropping the 2.4Ghz SSID and won’t allow a connection from the devices until I do, and then only for a short time.
I’ve tried setting the channel to a different number.
I’ve tried setting it to Auto.
    I’ve tried a different speed, 45, 145, and 300 Mbps.
I’ve tried moving the equipment around.
I’ve tried recycling everything and bringing them up one at a time.
Now the extender is handing our a weird IP address “169.254.38.*” instead of the reserved addresses for the devices.
I don’t know what else to do other than to assume it’s a bad extender.

It's not just your router, mine does the exact same thing. I suspect some poor engineering (hardware or software) and if I can't get it working it's going back to the store and another brand will be replacing it. Any other thoughts Netgear?

Still no solution to the issue with the extender, having to restart it regularly, daily, only to be able to use for a short period. Any assistance is appreciated.
