WN802T is it dead???
Hiya guys,
Is my access point dead?
I have a WN802T, which i have had for about 6 months. I came home today to do some work in the office. The Network connection light is out, the wireless light is out. The power light is still on.
It wont respond via its Ip address, and wont let me do a factory rest nether. When i try the power light just flickers slightly ( and i mean slight ).
Any ideas be really good thanks
jon

- BoomyalNoviceI just bought one of these for our home, for Christmas. After reading all these posts, I'm beginning to wonder whether or not I should take it back before I use it.
It cost double what some others cost but it looked like the one that had good range for our big rambling house. I do not look forward to the disruption that a failure would cause, nor do I look forward to coughing up another $150.00 after the one year warranty is up.
What other unit would be comparable? That is in everyway besides this apparently unaddressed failure rate. - BoomyalNoviceRE the above post. The serial number on my unit is 1UB17BLU0012B.
Also when I registered for this forum the product proof/registration would not accept this number. I tried it using both numeric 0's and alpha O's. Seems Netgear does not even acknowledge their own products. An ominous sign I should think. - BoomyalNoviceI guess no one from Netgear moniters this post. It is now in it's 5th page and I have not even seen any moderators chime in. Even though moderators are typically not employees, at least on other forums, they would alert the powers that be when an issue arises worthy of their attention.
If I do not see any official assurances that I have not bought a pig in a poke, Netgear is going to get my WN802T firmly planted back in their lap.
My only hope is that this issue is an aberation. It seems most problem units listed here had serial numbers starting with 1K. Mine, starting with 1U, seems to be well beyond that range. - DutchBBQNoviceMore people complaining having dead WN802T units:

I'm worrying about the lifetime of my unit! - BoomyalNovice

Thanks Dutch. That seems to be the final nail in the coffin. Back it goes to the retailer.
I have a call into a Nephew in Law who works for Intel. Hopefully he'll have a good alternative suggestion. - switchAspirantWell, I'm not so sure about your statements of Netgear staff not monitoring this thread:

As the member with alias Netgear1-9A-Z (Senior Member with almost 3000 postings) has access to case numbers, I'm pretty sure he belongs to the Netgear inner-circle.
You're right, he is not officially a moderator, but defacto he is.Boomyal wrote: I guess no one from Netgear moniters this post. I explained the problem and within a day I was contacted and received RMA instructions.
Netgear Support really is very helpful. Netgear has outsourced their customer support to this company: http://www.idtglobal.com/ - BoomyalNovice

I did note him appearing to be one of some connection but his last post was on October 26. This is now some 2+ months later with a couple of more reports and many cries for some official response.switch wrote: Well, before you decide NOT to buy yourself a WN802T, please note that I called in Tech Online Support and created a case (with case number). Mine is not a decision to buy, it is one of whether or not I keep the one that I already bought but have not opened. Had I done the net search before I bought it instead of the day after, I would never have purchased the unit regardless of the retailer's claims of the WN802T having better range and more reliable transmission.
My biggest fear is that I use this one and shortly after the year warranty is up, whether the first one lasts that long or not, that the warranty date starts with the purchase of the first one but not any of it's replacements.
I know that nothing lasts forever, but this was a stretch for me to buy in the firstplace. I do not want to have to do it again in the near future. - BoomyalNoviceToday, Jan 4, 2008, I returned my unopened WN802T Access Point to the retailer.
IMHO, it is pretty pathetic when there are so many posts of multiple failures and the manufacturerer does not even monitor or respond to these issues on it's own forum. - upgrade_latelyAspirantMy WN802T died after only 3 months of use. Power light only....
I just received my replacement from Netgear. It will be interesting to see how long this one lasts...
I smell a recall, or class action suit.
