WNHDE111 disconnects/issues
Recently picked up the WNHDE111 kit and am having a few issues.
It hooked up fine, and found each other not problem. I have been able to access the internet with nice speeds from the far bridged end by being able to fully patch a new HTPC OS build through it. Did some testing of streaming some video and that worked fine too. I get an average rate of about 80%.
Now, the problem. I was trying to COPY some large files (multi-GB) from a wireless workstation on myh 11g network through the WNHDE111 kit to the far end workstation. It seems this higher than DSL speed activity causes the bridge WNHDE111 to lose its connection within 2-3 minutes (sometimes less). The device will have no lights on what-so-ever.
I have now set each device to their proper roll (i.e. AP and BRIGE hard coded instead of AUTO). I set static IP addresses for each.
Something strange I am noticing is on the AP when looking at the wireless status, it shows the IP of the bridge as one from my DHCP range (not the static address that has been assigned to it, and is used for management of the device). Why?
Any other suggestions for helping this device work under load? As it seems it isnt noise, but amount of traffic at LAN speed when copying files, as I have had no issues with normal internet speed activities.

They've told me to buy another WNHDE111 'coz it "has to be a compatibility problem with the Airport Extreme".
.. *fumes*
thing happens. this is just a way of the compatible issue arise with many manufactures specially mixing with different manufacture. N-routers mostly picky on hardwares you work with. you just hope it works with what you have.:) - eqwalkerAspirantWell, I let my trouble ticket expire before I could respond to a question that they had asked. I had to go out of town and did not get back in time. I did some more research. Here are the details of my installation. I bought a pair(kit) of these access points just so I could use my new HP MediaSmart Connect x280n on my tv in the bedroom. The x280n has 802.11n wireless built-in but I elected not to use it to avoid any compatibility issues between HP and Netgear equipment. Therefore, I installed one of the Netgear units to my router as the AP in the living room where the HP z558 is connected to my router as my video server. The other Netgear unit is connected to the x280n in the bedroom as the bridge. The installation was performed just as the installation guide suggested. They linked up with each other on power up just fine and I can stream radio stations to the x280n off of the net without any problem. If I try to watch any of the video programming off of the z558 it will play for a short while (standard def video will play for a longer period of time than HD) and then the x280n will loose connection with the z558 and the Netgear bridge's front LED will start going through 3 flashes over and over. On further inspection, I find that the Netgear AP in the living room goes off, or at least the power led on the front goes off and I have to power cycle it to get it back up. I have a hard time believing that any of my other equipment would be causing this. It appears to be a problem with the two Netgear devices. It seems like they simply cannot handle high traffic load. When I looked at the log on the AP I got this message: "Wireless system with MAC address xxxxxxxxxxx disconnected for reason: Received Deauthentication". What does this mean? Unfortunately, streaming video off of my z558 in the living to my x280n in the bedroom is the main, and only, reason I bought this Netgear pair/kit. I hope that I haven't wasted my money on something that has been brought to market too soon with the bugs not worked out. I feel they should work since they were both bought together and should work flawlessly since they are both the same. I would think that Netgear would release a firmware upgrade to correct this issue.
- jmizoguchiVirtuosoif you are streaming, large file trasfer and half duplex on repeating may cause some interruption. repeating are all in half duplex...
- eqwalkerAspirantWell, I don't know if there is any repeating going on, but the signal strength on the two units is at 100%. They are only about 8 feet apart with one wall in between them. Another thing I noticed this morning, the bridge's front LED is completely off. The LED on the AP in the living room is still on. Yet, I cannot ping the AP from the z558. Guess I'll have to reboot it again. Before I went to bed both units where connected to one another. Being that there was not any traffic to speak of during the night, why would they go offline? I'm going to give support another try at it since I was the one that did not get back to them, but if they cannot work it out I'm going to box these things back up and take them back. Sounds to me like they need to work on them for a while longer.
- Eqwalker, I'd appreciate if you can keep the forum up-to-date on your progress. This issue has been reported by others but not sure how they went. I have this problem also - exactly as you just described - although I admit to being lazy. I've just been living with it and powering on/off as necessary, as I'm not aware of an equivalent solution and I need it!
Good luck. IMHO this needs to be fixed in a firmware upgrade urgently - it's go to be a protocol issue. - mikepaulAspirant

Well, since swapping, my problem has moved to the Access Point end.
Now the disconnects are fewer but when the Bridge can't connect I have to power off the Access Point instead. I now have X10 devices on both so the walking is minimal, but X10 in a UPS doesn't always work so there's more button-mashing than normal going on.
I'll play for a while longer, then figure out how Netgear feels about a RMA or whatever... - eqwalkerAspirantI am currently still working with support on my problem. I will update as more progress is made. So far they are just getting information from me at this point so they can analyze and help.
- eqwalkerAspirantSecond level support feels that I had a hardware problem and suggested that I return them to the seller and get a replacement pair. It would appear that he was correct. The new pair so far are functioning perfectly. I installed them no differently that I did the first pair and I have streamed about 2 hours of HD on these and have not had a single failure whereas I could not get more than a few minutes on the previous pair. Now lets see if the units stay on during the night and not go offline. I will report my findings here. If they stay on then it looks like all of my problems have been solved.
- eqwalkerAspirantOh, one inportant piece of information that I did not mention in the previous post. On the new pair I did not let them perform the firmware upgrade yet. They are at Current Firmware Version : V 1.2.3_1.0.1
As long as they are performing without issues for my uses I am not going to upgrade them to the new version. On the previous pair I upgraded the firmware upon installation. I don't know if that had anything to do with it or not, but I'm not touching the new pair at this time while they are working. - eqwalkerAspirantI am pleased to say that the units stayed on all night and worked perfectly without any issues. So, at this point, I would suggest that anyone that is having problems like I had with my first pair to return them for an exchange or arranged to have them replaced via Netgear support. Also, if you can/do take them back to the reseller that you purchased them from, be sure you get a new sealed box unit(s). When I went back to my seller, at the exchange desk they told me to go get me a new set and come back to the exchange desk. So I went back to get a new set and found one box on the shelf that had been opened. I got the one behind that was still sealed. I didn't want to take a chance of getting a pair that someone may have bought and brought back because of the same issues. The seller may have hooked them up and seen that they worked, not knowing that they would work for a short while, and think that there was nothing wrong and put them back. Anyway, new pair here now and working good so far.
