Table and wireless printer not seeing main network

I have had the R6220 for some time, almost a year. I have multiple signals 1- main network 2- guest account 3 - 2.4 signal for others. My network consists of NAS box (hard wired), wireless printers, garage desktop (hard wired), and 2 wireless laptops. Recently I have had issue with the printer not connecting to #1 main network signal. If I try to connect with the WPA button on router, printer says signal not found. If I type the SSID in manually, it still comes back with signal not found. However, if I search manually through the available signal options on the printer, i can see #2 & #3 signals... just not the #1 main network signal. Now I thought this was a printer issue, but I recently got a new tablet. When I tried to connect, same story... it cannot see #1 main network signal. My father was recently visiting and his Win10 computer had same issue. I don’t think it’s a device issue, rather a router issue. I just opened up my smart phone, which has connected to this router for months, can see the signal and connect.

Is there some type of security that prevents unknown devices from seeing a signal? I know my work Guest account does not broadcast the SSID.

  • Hi jvbuttex,

    1. What is the firmware version of the router?

    2. Is your main network the 5GHz band? If it is, then not all wireless devices can detect the 5GHz band. Please check the device specification and make sure that they are dual band devices (can connect to both 2.4GHz and 5GHz).

Hello Dexter... Sorry for late reply, I didnt get any email notificaiton of your reply. My router has V1.1.050_1.0.1 version running.

yes 5GHz is main network. I had the printer connectied without issue about 3months ago. It seems somethign changed... A buddy said it may have a black list running that will keep some devices from connecting. Is this true?

Im verifying the printer settings just to make sure... I know I did add this router recently...

After a bit of searching on Canon webiste. I found it... the printer only supports 2.4Ghz... so I am confusing the connectivity issue with the old router. I will change the setup so that I can use the 2.4ghz for my main network. Thanks for pointing me in this direction.
